Alice Sue Martin

Alice Sue Smith-Martin, 89, of Muskogee Oklahoma, passed from this life to the next on the early morning of February 1, 2025. Her time on this earth can only be described as ‘“A life well lived”. Sue was a devoted wife to her first husband, Lloyd Smith, who passed away after 31 years of marriage, then her second husband Bob Martin who passed away after 21 years of marriage. She was also a wonderful mother, and she was Mema to everyone. She lived most of her life here in Muskogee and built relationships everywhere she went with most everyone she met. Sue worked at Gafford Lab, Phoenix Federal and Payne Weber before retiring. During that time she built many strong and lasting relationships with those with whom she worked. Sue’s faith was an extremely important part of her life and she instilled this within her entire family. She was a long-time member of First Assembly of God Church in Muskogee where she raised her family and participated for many years in the church choir. Later she was a member of Evangel Assembly of God, Central Assembly of God and then eventually became an integral part of Timothy Baptist Church where she attended with much of her family and many friends. Sue’s very favorite thing in the world was to be with her family and she cherished that time over everything else. Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays were always special times and nothing made her happier than to have her entire family gathered together for these events, eating and laughing and filling her home with joy. Maybe her very favorite time together was traveling with her entire family (kids, grandkids and great grandkids) to the beach and spending the entire week together. She was so proud of the fact that her family could make this trip every year for 31 years, enjoy themselves and never have a conflict! This annual trip as a family is one of the great gifts that she gave us. Sue also enjoyed a number of other activities throughout her life. In the earlier days Sue, Lloyd and the kids spent a lot of time camping at Greenleaf State Park in their Scotty camper and those weekend camping trips were amazing and created great memories for all. Later she and Bob traveled to many different places, sometimes to see the sights and other times to see family that lived in Arizona, California and Washington. Her and Bob also spent years on a Senior Bowling League after they retired and oh my, how many grandkids and eventually great grandkids games they attended- that’s where she became known as Mema to all their friends. Sue connected with a group of gal-pals and started walking every day at the mall and she did this for years until recently when her health began to be a challenge. Sue loved to dress and dress well. She was never seen in public unless she was fully put together and often wore something in white because that was her favorite color of clothing and whenever possible she would be sure to ‘pop the collar’! As in anyone’s life, hers was not without its struggles and challenges, however she faced each one with faith, courage and strength. Sue is survived by her children, Debie and Nick Clark of Okay Ok, Pam Smith and Jack Hurst of Muskogee Ok, Rick and Regina Smith of Waxahachie TX. Her grandchildren, Justin Walker and his wife Wendy, Chad Clark and his wife Makyla, Taylor Gaddy, Chelsea Davison and her husband Ryan, Reagan Minter and her husband Dustin and Rian Smith. Her great grandchildren, Malachi, Ethan, Chase, Ryder, Austyn, Alyssa, Mylee, Reese and Parker. And many additional nieces, nephews, family members and a host of friends from her church family and her many years of living and thriving in the Muskogee area. Sue was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Smith, then Bob Martin, her parents Jack and Mary Robison, her siblings Jackie and brother-in-law Doyle Edgmon, Imogene Casey, Margaret Lankford, Mary Jane Robison, Jerry Robison and Charles Robison. A celebration of Sue’s life will be 10:30AM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at Timothy Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Payne officiating.
