Allen Newberry

Allen Leroy Newberry, 73, passed away on February 7, 2011 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born on June 11, 1937 on the family wheat farm in Milan, Kansas to Harold Edwin and Norma Edna Newberry. Allen graduated from Milan High School in 1955 in Milan, Kansas and in 1957 from Arkansas City Jr. College in Arkansas City, Kansas. He married his high school sweetheart Nelda Shaffer on February 24, 1956 in Medford, Oklahoma. In 1958 they retired to Milan, Kansas area to wheat farming and later added their dairy. In 1968 he accepted a management position with K-Mart and retired 30 years later. Allen loved the Lord and was always sharing his salvation with others. He also enjoyed gardening, sports, motorcycle riding and spending time with family and friends. Allen is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse, Nelda Mae Newberry; four daughters, Kathy and Terry Kennedy of Muskogee, OK; Peggy Rich of Albuquerque, NM; Patti and Brian Sallee of Muskogee, OK; Shelly Vance of Muskogee, OK; ten grandsons, Jeremy and Lisa Rich of Locust Grove, VA; Larry and Amanda Kennedy of Muskogee, OK; Matt and Jen Rich of Albuquerque, NM; Mark Kennedy of Oklahoma City, OK; Eric and Amy Ledbetter of Haskell, OK; Grant and Amanda Newberry of Moore, OK; Cory Vance and fiancé Whitney Francis of Norman, OK; Casey and Erin Ledbetter of Muskogee, OK; Brian and Samantha Sallee of Fort Gibson, OK; Winston Sallee of Muskogee, OK; nine Great grandchildren; one brother, Edwin and Barbara Newberry of Wellington, KS; sister-in-laws, Fern Topham of Wichita, KS, Farol McMillan of Clearwater, KS, Mary Ellen Shaffer of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-laws, Max and Kathleen Shaffer of Anthony, KS, Carl and Kay Shaffer of Wichita, KS, Dale and Velma Jean Shaffer of Springdale, AR, Edwin and Mariann Shaffer of Belle Plaine, KS; a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011 at York Street Christian Church with Mr. Gene Thompson and Mr. Greg Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Rich, Larry Kennedy, Matthew Rich, Mark Kennedy, Eric Ledbetter, Grant Newberry, Cory Vance, Casey Ledbetter, Brian Sallee, and Winston Sallee. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Davis, Mike Plant, and Gene Frazier. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
