Anne Laura Layman

Anna Laura Patrick Layman (Anne), 77, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born May 7, 1940 in Kansas City, MO and adopted shortly after birth by Ruth Alice West Patrick and Weldon Thomas Patrick, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Muskogee High School in 1958. Anne worked as Secretary to J.E. Arnold of Scott Paper Company while attending classes at OBU. She worked as secretary to the Dean of Women at Oklahoma Baptist University. She also worked as a Patient Service Representative for the Miami Baptist Hospital in Miami, Oklahoma as well as for Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri as an insurance clerk. She was the co-owner of the Layman Music Center in Moore, OK. Anne taught the elementary children in various schools in Oklahoma and Missouri. She served as the remedial reading teacher and librarian in middle school. She enjoyed working with the kindergarten children the most, and after retirement, continued to substitute particularly in elementary music and kindergarten. Anne directed the children’s choir in Oklahoma and Missouri for 30 years as they moved. She also taught private landscape painting lessons for 10 years. She became involved in taking her arts and crafts business, “Country Traditions” to the larger shows in Oklahoma and Missouri. Her great love was God, family, love for children, music and art. She was a member of New Friends and Genealogy Club and also Kappa Kappa Lota and Beta Sigma Phi. Anne spent a great deal of time researching family history. She was happiest studying God’s word and attending church and Bible study. She loved sewing, crafts, floral design, jewelry, photography, painting, collecting cookbooks, and reading. Piano was another love of hers as well as music. Anne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Muskogee. It gave her great joy to sing in the choir and all the special programs and recordings. She sang in the choir all her adult life. She grew up from cradle roll to the day she married in 1959 at Central Baptist Church in Muskogee to her high school sweetheart and they remained married for 36 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard Alan Patrick. Out of the marriage is one daughter, Kris Layman of Yukon; two sons, Jay Layman and wife Buffy of Ponca City, Craig Layman and wife Billie of Kaw City; grandchildren, Amanda, Morgan, Heather, Matt, Brendon, Carter, Alisha, Casey, Dylan, and Tayber. Her 10 beautiful grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were the lights of her life. A memorial service celebrating Anna’s life will be 1PM, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Ward officiating.
