Barbara J. Powell

Barbara J. Powell, 83, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2021. She was born on December 3, 1937 to J.B. Parker and Cleo (Bailey) Parker in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Clyde Powell, Jr., on October 24, 1953 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. They shared over 67 years of life love and marriage together. They faithfully ministered to Elm Grove Road Assembly of God for many years and adored their church family. Barbara was a housewife until her kids started to school. Even though dementia had taken over the last few years, she spoke of her family and friends often remembering the past. She woke up every day ready to get ready for church. During the last few years, her husband was her rock and never left her side. She loved her kids and grandkids. Barbara was extremely proud that she went through the 10th grade, and years after got her GED and master’s degree from Northeastern State University. She was a member of NSU PiGamma, National Social Science Honor Society, RLTO Gamma Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, International Honor Society in Education and Alphi Chi, a national academic society. She graduated from college the same year her daughter graduated from high school and began her teaching career. Barbara often talked about her students and looked forward to going to work every day. It was such a thrill after she retired to run into her kids and give them a hug. Barbara loved her family very much. She and Buddy are together again and that is exactly where she wanted to be. They will be missed by everyone who knew and loved them. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Cleo Parker; her husband, Clyde Powell; her brother, Lowell Parker; son-in-law, Jess Tolliver and her sister-in-law, Faye Parker. She is survived by her son, Rick Powell; daughter, Pam Tolliver; grandchildren, Krysti (Dusty) Nail, Joshua Powell, Cody (Autumn) Powell, Dakota Nail, Jaron Nail, Rylan Nail, Grace Nail, Quinton Powell, Uly Parker and Maddie Powell; special uncle, Ralph Parker; sisters, Suzy Nodine (Ron), and Janice Herbeck; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be 10AM, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery with Joshua Powell, Jaron Nail, Dakota Nail, Rylan Nail, Cody Powell and Dusty Nail serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Parker, Cyrus Spears, Brian Lester and Wendt Weston.
