Betty June Barnett

Betty June Barnett, 78 of Hitchita, OK, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday evening, March 8, 2016. She was born September 19, 1937 in Muskogee, OK, to Carl Truman and Margaret Imagene (Davis) Cooley. She grew up and attended Muskogee Public Schools and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1955. Shortly after graduation, Betty met Johnny Barnett. After a brief courtship, Betty and Johnny got married and would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this year. Betty embarked on a career with the Muskogee Police Department as a Matron Stenographer. She enjoyed working there for several years before she began working with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company. She worked as a secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for many years until her retirement in 1987. Betty’s love for her family was her true motivation in life. Everything centered around doing things for her family. Her hobbies included being outdoors working in her garden, flower beds and enjoying mother nature. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret Cooley; her sister, Joy Crittenden; her brother, Carl Cooley; and her twin boys, Darrell and Farrell Barnett. Betty is survived by her husband, Johnny Barnett of the home; her sons, Toby Barnett and wife Gail of Hitchita, Tony Barnett and wife Robbie of Muskogee and Tommy Barnett and wife Kathy of Ft. Gibson; her grandchildren, Amanda Barnett, Trisha Barnett, Savannah Barnett, Derek Phillips, Angela Phillips-Whitney and husband Troy, Kimberly Ann Barnett, Ian Balus Barnett, Brittany Clark and husband Ron, and T.J. Barnett; great grandchildren, Emily Vaughn, Trevin Bales, Mya Barnett, Hunter Harmon, Alex Hoog, Avery Hoog, Kayden Bellah, Caleb Bellah, Collin Austin, Aurora Wooverton, Kaleigh Whitney, Ireland Kay McAuliff, Rhyley Pack, Kieli Clark, R.J. Clark, Kyleigh Barnett and Noah Clark; her brother Jim Etchison and wife Cathye of Muskogee and William Cooley and wife Ginger of Bixby, OK; numerous other nieces, nephews and other members of the family. A celebration of Betty’s life will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Echols officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Etchison and William Cooley.
