Betty Lou Jones

Betty L. Jones left many fond memories when she entered her heavenly home, February 2, 2021. Betty was born in Checotah, Oklahoma May 5, 1934 to Earnest McElroy and Josephine McElroy. Betty attended church services that were held at Central High School southeast of Checotah. During one of the social gatherings, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Jones whom she married in 1952. Her children remember Betty as a dedicated mother. She treasured her sons and embraced every moment with them. She spent all of her energy making sure her boys were active, involved, and participated in school activities. Besides her devotion to her children, Betty lived a life full of the things she loved. She was a sports enthusiast and loved playing tennis, golf, and softball. She enjoyed modeling clothing for White Stag. Before her declining health, she was an enthusiastic gardener, Betty maintained the yard on their acreage and pond where she planted beautiful gardens for family, friends and passersby to enjoy. There was a cloud of witnesses surrounding her as she marched through the golden gates of heaven where she will see those who have gone before her. her husband, Jim Jones,and her parents, Earnest and Josephine will greet her along with her brother, Theodore. The fragrance of her will always fill the lives of those she left behind. She is survived by her two sons, Bradley Jones (Janis) of Moore, Oklahoma, Gary Jones (Madeline) of Checotah, Oklahoma; five siblings, Mozell Farrar of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Alitta Burks of Oroville, CA, Dewynuah Rempel (Skip) of Blair, Ne, Larry McElroy of Checotah, Oklahoma, Hazel Mann of Checotah, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a multitude of friends. Longtime friend, Reverend Tim Turner, of Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church, will officiate graveside services Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2 pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Grant Garner, Lee Hart, Dusty Duvall, Sam Duvall, Mike Garrett, and Tommy Knight. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Her faithfulness is like the flowers of the field (Isaiah 40:6). Time cannot steal nor fade the memories that love has made.
