Billy Jack Armstrong

Jack Armstrong, 69, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Fort Gibson. He was born on December 4, 1944 in Anthony, Kansas to Ralph Armstrong and Mary Faye Beard Armstrong. Jack attended Neodesha High School in Neodesha, Kansas as well as Independence Junior College in Independence, Kansas where he received his associates degree. Jack met and later married Marva Julian on May 11, 1979 in Fredonia, Kansas. They celebrated 35 years together. He began working in 1984 at Box IGA in Fort Gibson, that later became Harps Foods as Store Manager. Jack retired from Harps in 2011 after a long career. He was a faithful member of Muskogee First Assembly of God Church. Jack was known for his quiet demeanor and his love for the outdoors. His love for his wife, kids, and grandkids was very evident. Jack will be remembered as the best husband, father, grandpa, and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Faye Armstrong; and his brother, Benjamin (Mac) Armstrong. Jack is survived by his wife, Marva of the home; sons, Stephen Bradley Armstrong of Winfield, KS, Darrin Todd Armstrong and wife, Freda of Muskogee, Mark Hickox and wife, Sarah of Dallas, TX; daughters, Melissa Keener and husband, Kevin of Harrisonville, MO, Michelle Ford and husband, Mark of Fort Gibson, OK; grandchildren, Hillary Morse, Aaron Armstrong, Mason Armstrong, Kelly Armstrong, Shelbie Jackson, Madison Jackson, Reagan Ford, Dylan Ford, Austin Hickox, Lance Bennett, Trent Bennett, and Traci Bennett; eight great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Chuck) Armstrong and wife, Dianne of Urda, UT; many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Center Building Fund, c/o Muskogee First Assembly of God, 3100 Gulick St, Muskogee, OK 74403. Funeral services celebrating Jack’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Muskogee First Assembly of God Church with Dr. Steve Rose, Rev. Kenneth Broadus, and Rev. Don Dorsey officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m at Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Russell Blankenship, Jimmy Taylor, Tony Legg, Will Crawford, James Tye, and Gary Marrs serving as pallbearers.
