Charlene Y. Niedermayer

Charlene Yvonne Niedermayer of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on April 13, 1934, in Avon Park, Florida, Charlene was the beloved daughter of Charles Hart and Imogene (Elder) Hart. She spent her formative years in Avon Park, attending local public schools and graduating with the class of 1952 from Avon Park High School. Charlene built a dedicated career in communications, working as a telephone operator for many years. Her commitment to excellence led her to further roles as a secretary and later in the loan department at Commercial Bank of Muskogee, where she was respected by colleagues and clients alike. After decades of hard work and service to her community, Charlene retired in 1995. She married James R. Childress and from this union they had four children. On November 21, 1992, Charlene married, George John Niedermayer, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Together, they shared a journey filled with companionship, laughter, and mutual support. Charlene was known for her vibrant personality and many passions. She took great pride in her beautifully landscaped yard, nurturing plants and flowers that brought joy to her and those around her. An enthusiastic supporter of all University of Oklahoma sports, Charlene could often be found cheering on the Sooners, sharing her spirited love for the team with friends and family. Charlene’s legacy is one of kindness, devotion, and enthusiasm. She touched the lives of many through her work, her friendships, and her unwavering support for her loved ones. No matter how hard life was, she always kept her faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Imogene Hart; son, Dale Hart Childress; husband, George Niedermayer; father of her children, James R. Childress. Charlene is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Jones, Teri Edge (Bud), and Lisa Wilson (Tommy); grandchildren, Brande Pfenning (Kurt), Sherri-Lynn Neal (Darrell), Erin Edge Young (Bryan), Erica Childress, Matt Childress (Maegan), Tanner Wilson (Zoe), Taylor Wilson (Emali), and Shona Teaters-Childress; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda McKenzie; nieces, Kim Allen and Kris McRory; special friends and neighbors, Carolyn Luck, Ada Ross, and Doug Robertson; along with other family members and friends. A celebration of Charlene’s life will be at 12:30PM, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Echols officiating. Interment will be at 2:30PM at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Bud Edge, Tommy Wilson, Tanner Wilson, Bryan Young, Doug Robertson, and Matt Childress.
