Charles Willard Nigh

Charles Willard (Charley) Nigh left this earth on October 27, 2022 with family members by his side. Charley was born August 9, 1950 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Joseph C. and Charoline I. (Tiny) Nigh. Charley started his artistic abilities at an early age and only grew and grew in his drawing, sculpting and painting abilities. Upon the family moving to Oklahoma from California in 1968, Charley joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a radio telegraph operator. He served in Vietnam and received numerous awards such as Vietnam Service medals with two bronze stars, good conduct medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious unit commendation with star, and expert rifle and pistol awards. After discharge from the Marine Corps, Charley also served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He later worked as an EMT and substitute teacher. Charley had a gifted mind and used those abilities with his art and was known to use many various mediums and techniques to satisfy his artistic goal. He was an avid reader and even in his last few months he was learning a foreign language. Charley loved to attend the horse races in the area and he and his brother spent many Saturday’s betting and enjoying the day. He met and married Victoria Slavens and to this union his beautiful daughter Emily Victoria was born in 1988. Emily was the love of his life and they spent many days together watching movies and attending theatrical events Emily was involved in. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Tiny Nigh, and nephew Terry Joe Nigh. Charley is survived by his daughter and son in law, Emily and David Wheeler of Tulsa; brother, Danny Nigh of Claremore; sister, Molly Alexander of Okay, sister and brother-in-law Georgia and Gerald Brixey of Locust Grove; grandsons, Patrick and Michael Wheeler; nephews, Daniel Nigh, Austin Alexander, Jeremy Brixey and Asa Alexander; nieces, Andi Howe, Jessica Brown and Taylor Brixey, along with a host of cousins and other family members. In lieu of flowers, his daughter has requested donations be made to Clarehouse of Tulsa, Oklahoma or Millennial Hospice of Tulsa. A family memorial is planned at a future date.
