Charlie "Joe" Baucom

Charlie “Joe” Baucom, 91, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, February 19, 2024. He was born May 18, 1932 in San Angelo, Texas to Elbert and Bessie Jean (Essary) Baucom. He attended public schools in Texas and was active in band playing the french horn. He also served as the drum major his senior year. Joe proudly served his country joining the United States Air Force in 1950. He was stationed in Japan for 2 years and received an honorable discharge in 1953. In 1955, Joe was ordained as a preacher and was of Baptist faith. He attended and faithfully served as a member of Oldham Memorial Baptist Church for many years. Joe married Janet “Jan” Gilstrap and they shared many years of life and marriage together. Joe was a co-owner of 3B’s Concrete in Muskogee along with Phil Bebermeyer and “Skinny” Baucom. They worked many years together serving Muskogee and the surrounding areas. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with leather. He had a side business, “Boots by Joe”. Joe and Jan enjoyed sharing their passion of photography. They attended many art shows displaying the fruits of their labor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Bessie Jean Baucom; son, Joe Michael Baucom; stepdaughter, Rhonda Rhoden; stepson, Cecil Rhoden; and nephew, Ricky Bebermeyer. Joe is survived by his wife, Janet “Jan” Baucom of the home; siblings, Annis Bebermeyer Perry and husband Warren of Cameron, Gene Baucom and wife Donna Kay of Muskogee; daughter, Cindi Baucom Pritchett of Tulsa; grandchildren, Steven Baucom and wife Alena of Clarksville, TN, Matthew Baucom of Bartlesville, William Baucom and wife Tia of Mobile, AL, Ryan Baucom and wife Samantha of Washington, DC, David Sanderson of Tulsa, Christopher Pritchett of Pleasanton, TX, Justin Pritchett and wife PJ of Broken Arrow; step-grandchildren, Colt Baxter and Stephanie Baxter, Cassie Rhoden Fine and husband Jesse, all of Muskogee; 11 great-grandchildren; along with other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial can be made in Joe’s name to Oldham Memorial Baptist Church, 3605 Tahlequah St, Muskogee OK 74401, or to Kaleb House, 807 W Broadway St, Spiro, OK, 74959 or online at www.kalebhouse.org. Funeral services for Joe will be at 10AM, Monday, February 26, 2024 at Oldham Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Glen Little officiating. Interment will follow at McLain Cemetery with military honors being presented.
