Darrell Patrick Smart

Darrell Patrick Smart, age 54, of Muskogee, OK, passed away on November 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of infectious laughter, kindness, and joy. Born on June 6, 1971, in Illinois. Darrell moved to Muskogee, OK in 1977 where he attended Irving Elementary, Alice Robertson Jr. High, and Muskogee High School. During these years, he was involved in football, baseball and wrestling and made many lifelong friends. Friendship was a special talent of Darrell’s— his endearing spirit, inexhaustible supply of hysterical stories, and genuine care for others attracted people to him and they never left. He loved spending time with his sons, sitting around a fire with Susan and his friends, cracking jokes, fishing, listening to his records, and cheering on his Oklahoma Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, and LA Dodgers. He was on cloud nine when the Dodgers won the World Series and the Sooners won in the very same weekend! But above all, his greatest joy was his family. Darrell and Susan (Harbison) married on April 12, 2008, in Muskogee, OK and from that day forward, their lives were filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted father to Kanyon and Carson and his pride was apparent whenever he spoke of them. Darrell is preceded in death by his father, Jack Darrell Smart and his mother Patricia Kessick. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan, his partner in every adventure, and his two beloved sons, Kanyon Alexander Smart (Sidnei and unborn grandson Blake Darrell Howard) and Carson Andrew Smart (Grace). His family will forever remember his encouragement, warmth, and the way he made ordinary days feel extraordinary. He is also survived by sisters Vicki Trent and Shannon (Kathy) Geil, brother Dave Smart, nephew Christopher Trent and family, his niece Sarai Bensinger and family, as well as countless friends who cherished his humor, generosity, and easygoing spirit. Darrell believed deeply in living life fully and loving people fiercely. He made everyone around him feel lucky to be part of his world. His memory will continue to shine in the stories we remember, the laughter shared, and the love he poured into his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM, on Tuesday November 25, 2025, at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York, Muskogee, OK. A private family interment will follow. In honor of Darrell, the family encourages attendees to share a favorite story and enjoy a moment of laughter, just as he would have wanted. Should you wish, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association or Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Foundation in Darrell’s honor. Susan and the boys are so appreciative and humbled by the outpouring of love and support from all of Darrell’s loved ones.
