Donald R. "Don" Rutledge

Donald R. “Don” Rutledge, 77 of Muskogee, entered Heaven’s gates Thursday, August 24, 2017. He was born March 10, 1940 in Mount Vernon, TX to Felix Leroy and Virginia Demple (Newsom) Rutledge. He grew up and attended Mount Vernon Public Schools and graduated from Odessa High School with the class of 1958. After high school graduation, he attended Odessa College and later finished his education at Rhema Bible School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. On July 7, 1961, Don married the love of his life, Lynda Stancoff, in Odessa, Texas. Together they have shared more than 56 years of marriage and life together. Don served our country from 1961-1967 and enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He later received an honorable discharge. He enjoyed being a salesman and made a career selling oil field supplies and later owning his own business, Classic Metal Roofing. He finally retired in 2006 after a successful career in sales. His hobbies included gardening and woodworking. His family remembers that he was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends and especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Virginia Rutledge. Don is survived by his wife, Lynda of the home; son, Gary Don Rutledge of Farmer’s Branch, TX; daughter, Lisa Ann Huffer and her husband Jay of Muskogee; grandson, Silas Paul Huffer and his wife Monica of Joplin, MO; granddaughters, Ali Dawn Carlton and husband Dr. Conor Carlton of Tulsa, Zoe Grace Huffer and Tess Noel Huffer both of Muskogee; great-granddaughters, Geri Jean Huffer of Joplin, MO and Colbi Lynn Carlton of Tulsa, OK; brother, Thomas Loudin Rutledge and his wife Stacia of Fort Worth, TX and Billy Jack Rutledge and his wife Sherrie of Mount Vernon, TX; and many much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. A family conducted memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017, at Boulevard Christian Church with James McCracken, Steve Moss and Sy Huffer officiating. A private family interment has been set. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Titley, Kenny Harland, Gary Miller, Gene Johnson, Bob Havens, and Marrel Blehm.
