Doris Ann Baugh

Doris Ann Baugh was born in Columbus, KS on February 26, 1935 to Milas Earl Leggett and Lois Leone (Louther) Leggett. She passed away peacefully Thursday, September 8, 2016, at her home. She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Cherokee County Community High School with the class of 1953. During high school she enjoyed singing with the 100 member choir and girls ensembles at competition. Parts in plays and operettas were a highlight as well as serving as “worthy advisor of the order of Rainbow for Girls” and receiving the Grand cross Color. After graduating from High school, Doris began working at the local ASCS office. It was during this time that she met and then married the love of her life, Tom Baugh. Tom was working as office manager for the H.D. Youngman Contractors, INC. Tom’s job lead them to move to Norman, OK then to Neosho, MO before moving to Muskogee in January of 1963, where they would spend the rest of their lives. Two years after moving to Muskogee, their daughter Kathy was born. Doris always said that was the most special and exciting moment in her life. Doris went to work at Victor Savings and Loan where she remained for many years, eventually becoming an officer, processing and closing home loans. She later worked for LeJac Corporation and eventually going to work for Holloway Construction where she remained until she retired. Her time at Holloway was always special to her. She was blessed with many special, long lasting friendships during the years she was there. After Doris and Tom moved to Muskogee, they became very active in Memorial Christian Church. Doris served in many capacities but especially enjoyed the areas where she could be creative. Her faith and celebration of life experienced with friends there was very important in her life. Doris served on the board of Muskogee Cooperative Ministries in charge of the Weather Coalition providing fans and air conditioners during the summer and heaters and blankets during the winter. She always wanted to do more. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Tom; her sister, Jo Leggett; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Jane Leggett; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Charles Belt; great grandson, Jett Jamros; nephews, Mike Belt and Charles Leggett; and niece, Becky Belt. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Morgan Emerson; grandchildren, Lauren and Terry Sanchez, Kyle Emerson; great grandchildren, Jaxon Sanchez and Arya Sanchez; nephews, Brad Belt and Kevin Belt; niece, Debbie Belt; along with many others family members and friends who will miss her dearly. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Services honoring Doris A. Baugh’s life will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Chapel, with Dr. L. Jim Anthis presiding. Interment will be in Columbus, KS at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers are Morgan Emerson, Kyle Emerson, Terry Sanchez, Brad Belt, Kevin Belt, and Lauren Sanchez.
