Doris J. Phillips

Doris Jean (Call) Phillips, 96, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, June 19, 2023. She was born September 18, 1926 in Porum, Oklahoma to Nova Albert and Florence (Dandridge) Call. Doris married Fred C. Phillips in 1945; sharing 64 years of marriage until his passing. She and Fred moved from Porum, Oklahoma to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1953 where she had grown up and continued raising their family of six children. Fred began a new job in Tulsa working as a tile setter. Wanting to keep their family together, they moved to a home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma in 1957. In 1958, they bought a house in West Tulsa and lived there until 1961. They moved their family back to Muskogee where they bought Phillips Help Yourself Laundry. In 1965, Doris went to work at Corning Glass where she was a decorator. Her 25-year career ended when Corning closed its doors. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family playing dominoes, Skip-bo and marbles. She was an avid quilter. In 2021, she made each of her 18 grandchildren a quilt for Christmas. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan, attending many of their games. Doris was a devoted and faithful member of Jubilee Christian Center. Her passing will leave a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. “We all love you Momma.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Phillips; parents, Nova and Florence Call; son, Albert (Bud) Phillips; daughters, Carolyn Ward and Eva Howard; grandson, Matthew Calvin Phillips; and grandson-in-law, Randy Hall. Doris is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Pate of Muskogee and Virginia Griffin of Sapulpa, OK; daughters, Beverly Smith of Muskogee, Roberta (Bertie) Evans and husband Jim of Yale, OK; son, Orlin (Dug) Phillips and wife Cathy of Muskogee; along with 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; other family members and many friends. Funeral services for Doris will be at 12PM, Monday, June 26th, 2023 at Jubilee Christian Center in Muskogee with Pastor Jordan Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Paul “P.J.” Evans, Stephen Phillips, Jesse Ward, Mark Masterson, Scott Smith, Doug Phillips and Robbie Evans and serving as pallbearers.
