Dustin G. Hopkins

Dustin Gene Hopkins was born on February 11, 1980, to Eddie and Shelli Hopkins. His sister, Lyndzi, arrived in July of 1981. He was raised on a beautiful acreage in Oktaha, OK where he spent most of his life. He attended Oktaha schools from kindergarten through the 12th grade. He was passionate about sports and played basketball, baseball, and saxophone in the band. After high school, he attended both Northeastern State University and Bacone College, where he continued his baseball career. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in education and graduated in May of 2005. He met the love of his life, Amy, in 2005 and they married in December of 2006. They had their beautiful daughter, Camdyn Ryan, in 2010. Dustin had the kindest eyes, a brilliant smile, an infectious laugh, a warm heart, and a desire to help people. He touched many lives and built lifelong friends during his time at Oktaha, in college, and throughout his work life at Bacone College and through property management. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome. He worked hard and was focused on providing for his family. He truly had a zest for life! He enjoyed the simple things, especially anything outdoors – fishing, shooting guns, camping, and burning anything and everything. He spent quiet time driving dirt roads in his truck listening to music with the windows down. He enjoyed live music, movies, binge watching shows with his wife, and reading his favorite (and only) book – Catcher in the Rye. He was passionate about the Oklahoma Sooners and his Boston Red Sox and loved going to games – oh, how his face lit up at the sight of a ballpark! Dustin considered his closest friends his brothers and Cammy’s uncles. He loved his family and absolutely adored his wife and daughter. Dustin was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2022. For 15 months, he battled courageously and with such grace. Dustin passed from this life to his forever home on April 23, 2023, at the age of 43, in his home in Oktaha, surrounded by family. Dustin was preceded in death by his grandparents Gene and Marie Barneche. He is survived by his wife Amy and daughter Camdyn; parents Eddie and Shelli Hopkins; sister Lyndzi Bales, her husband Tim, and children Jaxon and Aniston; grandparents, Perry and Shirley Crupper; and a wonderful group of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
