Edward Dale Swafford

Edward Dale Swafford, 74, of Porum, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 16, 1948 to Edgar Fredrick Swafford and Bessie Mae (McMahan) Swafford in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Muskogee Central High School. Ed met the love of his life, Ginger Elaine Rains, in middle school and they were married on March 30, 1967 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. They shared over 56 years of life, marriage and family together. Ed enjoyed his family and was the family patriarch. He and Ginger raised not only their own children, but most of their nieces and nephews, as well as friends of their boys. Most of them looked to Ed and Ginger as their parents and still do to this day. Ed owned and operated several small businesses for many years, in addition to farming and ranching. He was known for giving advice—whether asked for or not—and it will be missed. The lessons he shared and taught will last for generations. Ed really enjoyed buying, selling and trading. He probably wasn’t in Heaven more than a few minutes before he was figuring out how to horse trade something or trying to make a dollar. His shoes will be impossible to fill and the void left behind is large. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bessie Swafford; brothers, Ernest, Ronnie, and Terry Swafford; sisters, LaVonne Swafford and Diana Harwell; and granddaughter, Katy Swafford. He is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Swafford of the home; sons, Kevin Swafford and wife Sissy of Porum, OK, and Jim Swafford and wife Sheri of Porum, OK; brother, Gary Swafford and wife Diane of Muskogee, OK; nine grandchildren—Krissi Swafford of Porum, OK, Kevin Swafford and wife Hollie of Porum, OK, Kayla Calhoun and husband Kyle of Kinta, OK, Allen Goekler and wife Jordan of Inola, OK, Lauren Goekler of Muskogee, OK, Paula Goekler of Ft. Gibson, OK, Raine Baldwin and husband David of Lake Dallas, TX, Tiara Payton and husband Zac of Anderson, MO, and Kaday Shields and husband Seth of Eufaula, OK; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones. A celebration of Ed’s life will be at 2PM, Monday, July 3, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Gary McElmurry officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Swafford, Jim Swafford, Gary Swafford, Mike Martin, Kevin Swafford, Jr., Gary McElmurry, Kyle Calhoun, Richard Burris and James Swafford.
