Ellen Louise Cole

Ellen Louise Cole of Muskogee, Oklahoma left us to be with her God on October 30, 2021. Louise was born to Grady and Maggie Swinney Nevill as the second of ten children. From an early age, Louise was active in the care of her younger siblings. She started school at Pine Tree Elementary and completed high school in Ferriday, Louisiana. After graduation, she enrolled at Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas where she met the love of her life, Carl. She often joked that she received a “Mrs.” degree. Carl knew after their first date, she was the one for him and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage. A Godly woman, Louise was a faithful member of the Lord’s church having been baptized into Christ at 13 years of age at Greggton Church of Christ in Greggton, Texas. Most recently, Louise worshipped with the Porter Church of Christ. Together with Carl, their home was open to many throughout the years; some stayed a day or two, others for several months. Although her primary occupation throughout her lifetime was homemaker, Louise over the years also sold Amway, operated Cole’s Texaco, was a newspaper carrier for the Muskogee Daily Phoenix and ran a Tom’s Chips and Candy vending machine route. She received much joy and pleasure from hosting a hospitality suite for the Chandler Road Church of Christ youth participating in an annual Leadership Training for Christ convention in Ft. Worth, then Tulsa, and finally in Rogers, Arkansas. She also enjoyed getting together with ladies from Chandler Road Church of Christ to make stuffed bears for local police to give to children in crisis situations. Most recently, she found pleasure in helping children to improve their reading through summer Reading Rangers program at Porter Church of Christ. She lived a life of service to others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Maggie Nevill; brothers, Grady Nevill, Jr., Glenn Nevill, Dwight Nevill; sisters-in-law, Ava Nevill, Leslie Nevill and brother-in-law Jimmy Beall. Louise is survived by her husband, Carl Cole, Sr., of Muskogee, OK; sons, Carl, Jr. (Tamra) Cole of Ft. Worth, TX, Donald Cole of Muskogee, OK, Grady (Jolene) Cole of Park Hill, OK; daughters, Judy (Dennis) McDowell of Rogers, AR and Nancy (Clay) Wilkinson of Justin, TX. She was Grandma to 13 grandchildren: Joshua and Isaac Cole, Amanda (Michael) Pickens, Jessica (Christopher) Hebb, Jennifer (Jay) Dannelley, Rebecca (Jeff) Harris, Elizabeth (Cody) Elkinton, Rachel (James) Brunton, Jonathan (Liz) McDowell, Clay (Megan) Wilkinson, Chad (Kay) Wilkinson, Cole (Mary) Wilkinson, and Carl Wilkinson. She was Greatma to 32 great-grandchildren, and also had many honorary children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Siblings, Barbara Beall, Edna (Jim) McKillop, Charles Nevill, Randy Nevill, John (Karen) Nevill and Gwen (Rod) Seivley; sisters-in-law, Peggy Nevill and Teresa Nevill and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Cornerstone Funeral Home and 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 4, 2021 at West Side Church of Christ. Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at West Side Church of Christ in Muskogee, OK with Minister Harry Fitzgerald and Minister Mike Roberts officiating. Interment will be held at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, OK. Pallbearers will be Michael Pickens, Jr., Christopher Hebb, Jay Dannelley, Jeff Harris III, Cody Elkinton, and James Brunton. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Hammond and the staff at New Century Hospice for providing care in Louise’s final days.
