Eula Mae Simpson

Eula M. Simpson, a lifetime resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the age of 83. She was born August 10, 1931 in Muskogee to John Rayford and Virgie Williams. Eula attended Irving Elementary and Alice Robertson Jr High School. She married Robert H. Barnes at the young age of 16. They had two daughters, Roxie and Brenda. On June 25, 1954, Eula married Harold Denton Simpson and they became an instant family of six with the addition of Harold’s two sons, Denny and Mike. Harold adopted Roxie and Brenda and raised them as his own. Harold and Eula were married for 35 years. Eula celebrated life and carried on the legacy of her mother. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality and was quick to care for others. She was a faithful member of the Southeast Baptist Church family until illness prevented her attendance. Eula will always be remembered as a dear friend to many with whom she enjoyed visiting, sharing stories, and laughter. Eula loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews. To many she was fondly known as “Aunt Mae”. She was an avid photographer and blessed each of her family members and dear friends with memory books of the special times they shared. She was loved by many and will be truly missed. Eula was preceded in death by her parents, John R and Virgie Williams; son, Harold Denton “Denny” Simpson JR; brothers, Aubrey, Lester, Grover (Diamond), Roy (Frankie) and John (Barbara); sisters, Rose “Marie” Coley, Francis “Pauline” Campbell, Imogene (Roy) McConnell, and Betty Lou Williams. She is survived by her children, Roxie Shouse and husband Charles of Muskogee, Brenda Gerling and husband Larry of Independence, MO, Michael Simpson and wife Vicki of Sacramento, CA; daughter-in-law, Linda Simpson; grandchildren, Rhonda Madewell and husband Mike of Owasso, OK, Jennifer Howard and husband Bobby of Depew, OK, Kay Shank and husband Jody of Mobile, AL, Laura Crane and husband William of Orongo, MO, Michael A Moss, and Jodi Moss Rastetter. Eula’s life was enriched with many great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
