Helen L. Baldwin

Helen Louise Baldwin, 89 a lifetime resident of Muskogee, passed away Sunday morning. Helen was born July 15, 1924 to Lester Matthews and Geneva (Crawford) Matthews. After attending the public schools of Muskogee and graduating from Central High School, Helen attended Draughn’s Business College, where she studied business. She worked for Midland Valley Railroad and Coburn Optical Manufacturing as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk, from which she retired on August 26, 1986. On July 22, 1954, Helen married the love of her life, Glen C. Baldwin, in Muskogee. They celebrated 42 years of marriage. Helen was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she attended the Senior Adult Co-ed Bible Study class, enjoyed singing with the Golden Voices and hanging out with the Keenagers. She was also a member of the Yarn Yarn sisterhood (hats for infants). Helen was loved by many and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen Baldwin, son, Matthew Baldwin, and daughter, Glenda Baldwin and her brother and his wife, Gene and Corkey Matthews. Helen is survived by her daughters, Judy Nail of Muskogee and Donna Irwin and husband Eric of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Valerie Vollman and husband John of New Orleans, LA, Carri Carey and husband Brad of Bristow, OK, Randy Baldwin of Muskogee, Greg Polumbus and wife Kelli of Ferguson, MO, Derrick Nail and wife Katy of Panama City, FL, Jake Nail of Muskogee; great grandchildren, Kiera Vollman, Preston Polumbus, Marissa Polumbus, Drew Polumbus, Christian Cook, Megan Cook, Shawn Cook, Kevin Cook, Jammi Carey, Tayler Maze, Hunter Carey, Gunner Carey, Alissa Munn, Katlin Munn, Geneva Baldwin, Kharma Nail; great great grandchildren, Ali Carey and Auburn Polumbus; sister, Sally Shannon Hildebran and husband, John; sister-in-law, Reva Davis; brother-in-law, Roy Baldwin and wife, Leon; many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Helen’s family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Helen’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Wilkinson and Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating. There will be a private family interment with Randy Baldwin, Derrick Nail, Greg Polumbus, Jake Nail, Brad Carey, and Jeff Shannon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Irwin, John Hildebran, Preston Polumbus, and Jamie Carey. The family requests memorials be made to Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home, 3800 N.
