Helen Beshlin

Helen Ruth Smart Beshlin 89 went to heaven on Sunday, May 24th at noon surrounded by her daughters Nancy, Donna and granddaughter, Pamela at Sun City Hospice House in Florida. Born June 7, 1930 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to William (Bill) and Ruth Smart. She was the second of 5 children born to Bill and Ruth. She is preceded in death by her siblings Billy, Patricia, Frank and LaDonna. Helen’s early years were spent in Muskogee until 1942 when the family moved to Pomona California where Bill worked on a chicken farm. In 1947ish the family moved to the “60 acres.” Helen moved to Midwest City to live with the Damon’s to attend High School. She moved back to Muskogee to graduate from Central High School in 1950. After High School she went to Tulsa and enrolled in the nursing program at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital where she would spend the next 3 years. This proved to be pivotal as also in Tulsa there was Spartan Aviation School. The nurses would invite the ‘boys’ to their socials and as fate would have it Helen the nurse to be meets Paul the flight engineer to be. They were married in 1954 in Muskogee at the home of Bill and Ruth. Once married the couple moved to New York where their 3 children Donna, Nancy and David were born. In 1964 the family moved to Miami, and then Sebring in 1980. Helen loved her family and took great pride in her grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Pamela, Andrew, Eric, Dayne, Christopher and Ashley. One of the joys of old age was becoming an “Oma”(great grandmother) to Meredith, Michelle, Davis, Emily, Ethan, Matthew, Alli, Lillian and Hyette. She is survived by her loving children, David P. Beshlin (Tammy) of Fayetteville, NC, Donna Nitz (David) of Sebring, FL, Nancy Diemer (Jack) of Brandon, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. A graveside memorial service will be at 10AM, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Agnew Cemetery in Muskogee, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 North York St, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com. A graveside memorial service will be at 10AM, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Agnew Cemetery in Muskogee, OK.
