James Wayne Offutt

James Wayne Offutt, age 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. He was born on September 19, 1945, in Meridian, Texas, to parents James Albert Offutt and Blanche Groomer. James attended public schools and graduated from Burleson High School with the class of 1965. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, beginning his service on March 22, 1967, and honorably discharged on March 20, 1970. During his time in the Army, he served during the Vietnam War. James married the love of his life, Rosa Carter, on November 22, 2005, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared more than 24 years of love, marriage, and memories together. Professionally, James worked for the Oklahoma State Prison as a corrections officer and retired in 2003. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hand carving wood and chainsaw carving, going to garage sales and flea markets, camping, fishing, and traveling with his beloved wife. James was preceded in death by his father, James Albert Offutt, and his mother, Blanche Groomer; and his sister, Lena Mae Offutt. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosa, of the home; his children, Buster Garrett of Crowder, Oklahoma, Mechelle Taggart and husband Phillip of Portland, Oregon, Johnny Ironmonger and wife Dina of Toledo, Ohio, PJ Adams and husband Kevin of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and James Noblitt of Muskogee, Oklahoma; his brothers, Curtis Offutt and wife Sylvia of Whitney, Texas, and Charlie Offutt and wife Vivi of Benbrook, Texas; his grandchildren, Kelly Garrett and wife Casey, Dakota Garrett and wife McKayla, Mackie Lee Garrett, Jude Taggart and wife Cassidy, Jake Taggart and wife Sabrina, Justin Ironmonger, Parker Garza, Harlie Adams, Bodie Adams, Aidan Noblitt, and Parker Noblitt; and his great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Garrett, Waylon Garrett, Jameson Taggart, Maycie Noel Adams, and Lillie Adams. He is also survived by other family members and friends. James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. James' life will be celebrated at 2 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Grandview Baptist Church with Brother Jay McAlister officiating. Military honors will be presented by the United States Army Honors Team. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Garrett, Jake Taggart, Dakota Garrett, Justin Ironmonger, Jude Taggart, Bodie Adams, Aiden Noblitt, and Parker Noblitt.
