James Patrick Okey

James Patrick “Pat” Okey, age 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, left us on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Born November 15, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to George Marvin Okey Sr. and Floretta Jetta (Steele) Okey. Pat’s journey took him from childhood days at Latta Public Schools in Ada, Oklahoma, then West High School, Alice Robertson Middle School, and finally Fairfax High School. Later he attended Northeastern State University for 3 years, working as a laboratory technician at Muskogee Regional Hospital. Pat’s sense of duty and compassion led him to serve bravely as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, where he became Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class. His commitment didn’t end there—he continued his service in the Army Reserves Medical Corps, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. Those who knew Pat admired his courage during Operation Desert Storm and the stabilization missions in Bosnia. Pat devoted himself to helping others as a medical technologist at Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center until his retirement in 2007. Never one to sit still, he pursued a passion for antiques and pipes, always eager to share stories and discoveries with friends and loved ones. On December 8, 1979, Pat found his greatest teammate and love, Cynthia Ann, whom he married at First Lutheran Church in Muskogee. Over 46 years, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family adventures. Pat was happiest outdoors, whether training birddogs or out hunting, moments he cherished and often shared with those closest to him. His warmth, kindness, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Okey Sr. and Floretta Okey; brothers, George Okey Jr., Steve Okey and Tim Okey. Pat is survived by his wife, Cynthia of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Okey of Tulsa, OK; sons, Michael Okey of Sand Springs, OK, James Okey of Texas, and Kevin Okey and wife Elizabeth of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter, Desiree Van Kalsbeak and husband William; great-grandchildren, Spencer Van Kalsbeak and Rickie Van Kalsbeak. A celebration of Pat’s life will be 11AM, Friday, January 9, 2026 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Rev. Clifton Loman officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Okey, James Okey, Kevin Okey, Jim Davis, and Otis Thompson.
