Jennie Louise Morgan

Jennie Louise Morgan, lovingly known as “Jennie Lou,” passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on December 10, 1931, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where her life began and her legacy of service, faith, and love would take root. Jennie was married for 45 years to Lester F. Morgan. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and perseverance. A proud member of the Cherokee Nation, Jennie carried deep pride in her heritage and in the generations that followed her. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cherished each of them as gifts from God. Jennie attended Oktaha Public Schools where she played basketball before earning her RN from Hillcrest Medical Nursing School and her BSN from Muskogee Baptist Hospital. Her career in nursing spanned more than four decades and touched countless lives. She served as a Surgical Nurse and Supervisor over Surgery at Muskogee General Hospital for over 20 years, worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Fite, became Director of Nurses at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, OK, and concluded her professional calling as an Administrative Nurse at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, Ok, where she served another 20 years before retiring in 1993. After retirement she worked as a Home Health Nurse. During her distinguished career, Jennie was honored with the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award in Nursing. This award recognized her excellence in patient care, leadership and mentorship of other nurses, dedication to the nursing profession, commitment to ethical and professional standards, innovation in nursing practice and service to community health. This honor reflected not only her skill as a nurse, but her compassion as a caregiver and her tireless devotion to those she served. Long after her retirement, her knowledge of nursing never faded. Even in later years, Jennie was still knowledgeable about surgical procedures and patient care. To those closest to her, she was known as wise, extraordinarily knowledgeable, strong, kind, sweet, generous and loving with and a keen sense of humor. She was known as a wonderful listener who never spoke a bad word about anyone Jennie loved her neighbors and made many friends throughout the years. She had a steady spirit, a compassionate heart, and made every person feel seen and heard. She was a woman of strong and abiding faith in Christ and a devoted member of Keefeton Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday School for many years. Her faith was not just something she spoke about—it was something she lived. She wanted nothing more than to help others, serve quietly, and love sincerely. Outside of nursing and church life, Jennie found joy in simple pleasures. She loved to read, study cookbooks, try new recipes, and spend time owning and operating the J&L Blueberry Farm. She also had a flair for basketball and was a passionate OKC Thunder superfan. When her “boys” were playing, nothing else mattered. Game night was sacred in her home. For the last three years, Jennie made her home with her daughter in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where she was cared for with love and surrounded by family. Jennie Louise Morgan leaves behind a legacy of grace, integrity, and unwavering faith. Her life was a living testimony of what it means to serve others, trust in God, and love deeply. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the Cherokee Nation Three Rivers Health Center for their professionalism, compassion, and exceptional medical care provided to Jennie. Their dedication and kindness brought great comfort to both Jennie and her family. Also, a special thank you to Emerald Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Jeff Kilpatrick; parents that raised her, Annie and Bill Smith; step-mother, Frances Kilpatrick; infant son, James Michael Herron; husband, Lester F. Morgan; siblings, Howard Kilpatrick, Kewpie Wilson, Nola Mc Daniel, Sue Manard, Lorene Bannan, Pete Smith, Roy Smith, Livina Climer, Joyce Scott, and Bill Kilpatrick; ex-husband, James Max Herron; and many friends and family, Joan Hill (Thunder pal), Idella Hughes (nurse), Lottie Jerrad (nurse), Margie Combs (nurse), Jennie Ishimenler (nurse), Helen Beshlin (nurse/cousin), Pat Becko (cousin), Faye Boen (cousin), Roxie Buckmaster (friend). Jennie is survived by her daughter, Marsha Nicks and husband Gary of Broken Arrow, OK; sons, Gary Morgan and wife Tana of Plano, Texas, Steve Morgan and wife Paula of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Darcy Ives, Ashley Morgan, Gatlin Morgan, Steven Morgan and wife Jenny, Josh Palmore and wife Brittnie, Jada Schuster and Tyler Palmore; great-grandchildren, Ella, Owen, Brodie, Ryder, Tucker, James, Brooks, Mason, Morgan, Nixon and Pierce; siblings, Judy Rector of Warner, OK, Jane Price of Keefeton, OK, Mary Love of Littlerock, AR, Jeff Kilpatrick Jr of Tahlequah, OK, Jim Kilpatrick (wife Stella) McLain, OK; and life-long friend, Marlene Baker Tulsa, OK. A celebration of Jennie’s life will be 12:30PM, Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Kirby Skaggs officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Gary Morgan, Steve Morgan, Gary Nicks, Gatlin Morgan, Brandon Chambers and Owen Ives serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeffrey McDaniel.
