Jerry W. Capps

Jerry Wayne Capps, 80, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 from a long fight with illness. He was born February 12, 1941 in Muskogee County, being one of 9 children, to Levi Newton and Seletha (Sells) Capps. Jerry married Alberta Zearley on February 1, 1969 in Poteau, Oklahoma. They shared more than 52 years of life, marriage, and memories together. He worked many jobs from being in pharmaceutical sales to being a car salesman for Andy Ewing Toyota and later as an insurance salesman. From there he found his calling and passion as a Pastor in the Church of God faith. He held many positions in the church he was proud of as he went from town to town in different churches to spread the word of God. Jerry loved to coon hunt with his friends and his old dogs, as well as deer hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved being at the cabin sitting on the porch with Alberta doing nothing but enjoying God’s creation. Jerry loved to joke and have fun with everyone and nobody was above it; nobody! He will always be remembered as a down to earth person who was also a wonderful teacher, friend, husband, and dad. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; parents, Levi and Seletha Capps; son, Joe Capps; siblings, Arvie Lee Capps, Ray Capps, Geraldine Shackelford, Charles Capps, Leon Capps, and Alma Capps. Jerry is survived by his sons, Roy Wayne Capps of Sallisaw, Mickey Capps of Muskogee; grandchildren, Sara Talley of Tulsa, Mathew Capps of Tahlequah, Blake Capps of Bentonville, AR, Allison Capps and Conner Capps, both of Tulsa; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Chester Capps, Larry Capps and wife Martha; along with many other nephews, nieces, other family members and friends. Jerry’s life will be celebrated at 10AM, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Jarvis and Bro. Harry officiating. Interment will follow at Stephens Cemetery in Clayton, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Mark Forrest, Danny Shiew, Alan Lackey, Mike Grace, Ernie Sturgeon, and James Garvin. Honorary pallbearer will be Byron Moore.
