Joan Hill

Joan Hill (Joe Ann) earned her wings Jan 9th, 2023. Born May 10th in her Mimi Stone’s house in Oktaha to Buster and Allie (Stone) Walker. She grew up working and playing with her 4 sisters, her brother and numerous cousins on their farm beside Butler Creek. Joan was proud of being the oldest in her family and loved living her whole life close to them in the Oktaha area. She loved people and never met a stranger. All of this is probably why Joan had lifetime fishing rights to every pond around. Her love and knowledge of family, community and people’s stories were an endless resource treasured by all who knew her. Joan played basketball at Oktaha and also independent ball. She was proud of Oktaha School and was the biggest Tiger fan. She was President of the Oktaha Ladies Club and helped raise money for local families in need and for the Oktaha Volunteer Fire Dept. She loved the Oktaha Methodist church and worked 5 years with the “Ladies of Glass” building 5 stained glass windows for the sanctuary. Joan’s many talents included being a natural artist with both drawing and painting, an accomplished seamstress, a fantastic cook and a fierce game player. Then came Thunder: We all knew to check the Thunder schedule before calling or going to visit because during the game was the only time Joan did not like to visit! Except with her Thunder pals, Jerry and Jenny. Joan was so proud of her family and loved to boast that she had 5 generations attend Oktaha School. Joan, loving Mom, Sister, Aunt, Nanna, and neighbor will be lovingly remembered and missed by Daughter: Pamela (Steve) Sloan of North Carolina, Brigett (Clay) Roberts, Brent Michael of Oktaha; Wyatt and son Forrest; Tonry, all of Tulsa and Emery of OK City; Shelby (Brian) Hayes sons Julius, Kasper; Lindsey (Marc) Sloan daughter Sydney of North Carolina. Son: Stan (Rena) Hill Oktaha; Brandon Hill (Matt); Patrick, Selina, Jaxton, Oaklyn and Laikyn Byers of Denton TX, Clinton (Renee) Hill; Weston (Heather) daughter Hensley, and son Ryett; Levi (Miss Jesse) and a new arrival due this summer; Jesse Lee and Payton Stewart. Daughter-In-law: Deb Hill-McClendon (Mike McClendon), Muskogee; Justin (Jodi) Hill, Hailey and Zack of Bentonville AR; Andrea (Nathan) Frisby, daughter Tatum of Muskogee Siblings and spouses all of Oktaha; Joyce Stine; Jerry (Gracia) Walker; Judy (Bob)Butler; Jan (Jr) Hough; Jeanne (JR) Bridges. Predeceased by: Parents, Buster and Allie Walker; Brother, Buddy Walker; Husband Gene; Son Brad; Grandsons Brett and Hooter Williams; and Son-in-law Dennis Williams. To say she will be missed is an understatement. To know her was to love her. Fly High, Joan! Joan’s life will be celebrated at 10AM, Friday, January 13, 2023 at First Community Church in Oktaha with Rev. Jeff Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Oktaha Cemetery with Brandon Hill, Clinton Hill, Justin Hill, Weston Hill, Levi Hill and Jesse Hill serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Hill, Nathan Frisby, Mike McClendon, Squeak Garner, Jerry Needham, Phil Pack and Steve Sloan. Public visitation will be 9AM-8PM, Thursday, January 12 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Casket will be closed following visitation. The family requests memorials be made to Oktaha Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 7, Oktaha, OK, 74450.
