John Franklin Murr

John Franklin Murr was born July 19, 1924, to Henry Murr and Lucy (Snell) Murr in Isom Springs, Oklahoma. He grew up there near Woodville until his family moved to Oktaha where John graduated from Oktaha High School. John was a lifelong farmer-and he loved it. He also fell in love with a young girl named Dorothy Moore. They were married for 73 years and raised three sons. John and Dorothy operated a dairy farm for many years near Oktaha, after John worked approximately 15 years for Pruitt’s Produce in Muskogee. In 1978, John retired from dairy farming but continued to raise beef cattle until his failing health forced him to quit. He was a proud member of Oktaha Gospel Church where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and deacon for over 25 years. John loved his friends and neighbors, and they loved him in return. He and Dorothy raised a huge garden every year, providing vegetables to others. John Murr will be sorely missed by his family and a host of friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lucy Murr; brothers, Alton, Bob, and Wilburn Murr; grandsons, Jeremy Murr, and Andrew Ashwood. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his three sons and daughter-in-law, John and Rhonda of Dayton, Texas, James and Daytha of Oktaha, Oklahoma, and Jerry and Glenna Murr of Wainwright, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Charmin and Kevin Lane, David Hatcher, Jennifer Ashwood, Michelle and Jeff Selby, Jerrod and Jenn Murr, Josh and Jill Murr; great-grandchildren, Cody, Nate, and Kaitlin Lane, Haley and Cody Dean, Abby Ashwood, Roper and Hannah Selby, Brooklyn Selby, Baylor Selby, and Adelae, Josalyn, Everett, Henry, and Levi Murr great-great-grandchildren, Hazelynn Selby and soon-to-be Molly Drew Dean. A celebration of John’s life will be 2:00pm Friday, December 27, 2019 at New Hope Assembly of God in Muskogee, Oklahoma with Pastor Jerrod Murr and Reverend Ben Hale officiating. A private family interment will follow with grandsons, Josh Murr, Kevin Lane, Jeff Selby, and special friends, Randy Eller, Mark Mullen, and Ronnie Reeves serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Lane, Nate Lane, Cody Dean, Justin Mullen, Paul Early, Ernest Hale, Wayne Mullen, and Jerry Needham.
