Leonard W. Branan

Leonard William Branan, 91, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born August 20, 1931 in Buffalo, Oklahoma to George Franklin and Helen Pansy (Price) Branan. He attended public schools and graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1950. Leonard married the love of his life, Alma Geraldine Cook on August 18, 1951 in Muskogee. They shared more than 71 years of life, marriage and memories together. He worked for Katy Railroad/Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. He retired in 1993 after many years of service. Leonard was very active in serving the Muskogee community and sporting events. He kept stats and scores for Muskogee Rougher baseball and girls basketball for many years along with Connors basketball for 15 years. He also kept stats for OU Sooners football for 15 years. He served as director of the Shrine basketball tournament for 17 years and was also a Shriner. Leonard was a long time official with the Midwest Racing Association in the late 60’s and 70’s. He enjoyed stock car racing and numerous other sports. He was also a member of the Morning Optimist Club. Leonard was a member of Muskogee First Baptist Church for many years where he faithfully attended and served as a deacon until his health began to fail. Leonard will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; son, Leonard Eugene Branan; parents, George and Pansy Branan; brothers, George Freddy Branan and Robert (Bob) Franklin Branan. Leonard is survived by his sons, Phillip Branan and wife Nancy, Russell Branan and wife Sue; daughter, Joy Davis and husband Lance; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer and husband David, Scott and wife Devy, Sarah and husband Gary, Josh and wife Kelli, Drew and wife Brooke, Kyle and wife Skylar, Brittany and husband Chris; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 sister-in-law, Sharon Branan; along with many nephews, nieces, and other family members. The family will receive friends from 3-5pm, Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Leonard’s life will be celebrated at 10AM, Monday, January 23, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Kevin Clarkson officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife following the services at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Branan, Josh Branan, Drew Branan, Kyle Davis, David Vinson, Chris Tasca and Gary Winkle. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Leonard’s memory to the Bedouin Shrine Transportation Fund, 201 S 6th St. W., Muskogee, OK 74401.
