Leroy Hathcoat

Leroy Hathcoat passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of seventy-five. He was born February 5, 1948 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. His parents were Joseph Louie and Mildred Mansker Hathcoat. Leroy grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he attended public schools. He also attended Connors State College. Leroy joined the United State Marine Corps and was wounded while serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He held numerous jobs during his life. He was a prison guard at McAlester State Prison, clerical help at the Veterans Administration Hospital, built fences, painted homes and businesses, and worked security for several companies. He along with his cousin, Butch Hathcoat, served in the honor guard, honoring our deceased veterans. He took great pride in doing this. Leroy liked to fish, hunt, and tried his hand at golf. After his health began to fail, he enjoyed watching all types of nature programs. He especially enjoyed a good western, a series or a movie. It didn’t matter if he had seen it time and time again. He was preceded in death by his parents. Leroy is survived by sons, Eric J. and Dawn Hathcoat of Sand Springs, OK, and Wesley L. Hathcoat of Kansas; grandson, Logan J. and Leah Hathcoat of Claremore, OK; great-grandson due in September; brothers, Louie Hathcoat of Muskogee, OK and Joe and Brenda Hathcoat of Fort Gibson, OK; sister, Annette and Victor Mitchusson of Fort Gibson, OK; nephews, Jason W. and April Hathcoat of Fort Gibson, OK, and Grant A. Mitchusson of Muskogee, OK; special friend, Darren Redfearn; along with numerous cousins and friends throughout the United States. The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to the caregivers and hospice personnel that cared for Leroy during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Leroy's name to the Frank Gladd American Legion Post #20 at 201 Southeast Rail Road Fort Gibson, OK 74434. www.oklegion20.org A graveside service for Leroy will at 11AM, Monday, August 28, 2023 at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Military honors will be presented.
