Lucy Ann Werntz

Lucy Ann Werntz, 88, passed away on August 8, 2021 in Muskogee, OK. She was born on January 8, 1933 to Robert William Gregg and Sofronia Grace (Hunt) Gregg in Fort Smith, AR. Lucy graduated from Fort Smith High School. She then graduated from Hendrix College at 19, with a degree in music with additional coursework done at the University of Arkansas. Later, she returned to school and graduated from Northeastern State College with a master’s degree in special education. She married the love of her life Frank David Werntz on August 30, 1952. They shared almost 69 years of marriage and precious memories. Lucy spent her years teaching for Muskogee Public Schools as a music and special education teacher. She also worked as a buyer for a clothing department store and was a housewife. She was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Muskogee, OK. Lucy enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sofronia and Robert W. Gregg; brothers, Richard Gregg, Robert H. Gregg and grandson, Joshua R. Gorton. Lucy is survived by her spouse, Frank Werntz of the home; daughters, L. Catherine (Werntz) Anthis and spouse Stan Anthis of Muskogee, OK, Susan (Werntz) Gorton of Oklahoma City, Ok, Rebecca (Werntz) Jackson and spouse Rick Jackson of Moore, OK; son, David Werntz and spouse Bonnie Robb of Altadena, CA; grandchildren, Sarah Gorton, Laura (Gorton) Thompson and spouse Bryan Thompson, Karen (Anthis) Faszold and spouse Jeremy Faszold, Kevin Anthis and spouse Jessica Anthis, Kristen Anthis and Carla Anthis; great-grandchildren, Xander Brock, Joshua Thompson, Spencer Thompson, Elliot Anthis, Elloise Anthis, Everett Anthis (due August 9th) and Frederick Faszold. Funeral services will be held 2pm, Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Muskogee, OK with Rev. Emery Mason officiating. Interment will be held at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, OK. Pallbearers will be Kevin Anthis, Stan Anthis, David Werntz, Laura Thompson, Kristen Anthis and Jeremy Faszold. Mask and social distancing required for funeral attendance. The family requests donation to Parkinson’s Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org/) in lieu of flowers.
