Mack A. Terrapin, Sr.

Mack A. Terrapin, Sr., 83, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016. He was born June 30, 1933 to John and Irene Terrapin in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He attended Muskogee High School where he played on the State Champion Football Team in 1950-1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and received an honorable discharge to the United States Army Reserve in 1955. Mack married Dolores Sikes on April 2, 1980 in Pryor, Oklahoma. They shared 36 happy years of life and marriage together. Mack was a man of many trades before his retirement. He was a pilot and worked as a crop-duster for Horne Spray Co. in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, a truck driver and was an accomplished silversmith. Mack was a member of the Mason-Pinal Lodge # 30 F.T.A.M. of Casa Grande, Arizona. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Mack enjoyed going boating and tinkering with his airplane and cars. He loved spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren. Mack will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Chief Terrapin and Irene Terrapin; brother, Jim Terrapin; grandson, Kevan Mendenhall; and son-in-law, Freddie Gauntt. Mack is survived by his wife, Dolores Terrapin of the home; children, Mack Terrapin, Jr. and his wife Amy of Alma, KS. Margaret Terrapin and her husband Troy Scoggins of Bartlett, KS, Larry Mendenhall and his wife Sherry of Dayton, Texas, Mark Mendenhall and his wife Laura of Fort Gibson, OK, Joyce Gauntt of Fort Gibson, OK, and Cheryl Green and her husband Gene of Chouteau, OK; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, Mack’s family has requested donations be made to the Fort Gibson First Baptist Church, Building Fund @ 304 East Hickory; Fort Gibson, OK 74434. The family will receive visitors 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Mack’s life will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 19, 2016 at Fort Gibson First Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Gandara officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors presented. Pallbearers will be Ryan Williams, Andy Williams, Darren Chupp, Travis Mendenhall, Wesley Green and Randy Mendenhall.
