Margie Helen Burris

Margie Helen Henderson was born June 1, 1934 to Hillary and Bessie Henderson in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Even though she grew up in Muskogee, she often stayed with her grandparents in the McLain and Elm Grove areas and enjoyed time with her brothers, sister, and cousins. She married Bill Burris in December of 1956 and they enjoyed almost 47 years of marriage. They spent their spare time boating and motorcycle riding, their longest ride being a trip of three weeks covering 5400 miles through western United States and Canada. Margie worked at Brockway Glass Company and attended cosmetology school and worked many years in a shop in her home. Later, she attended Connors State College and Healthcare Administrator School working for Countryside Estates and York Manor Nursing Home. Margie loved the residents and kept in touch with many of the residents and workers even after leaving the facility. Margie enjoyed worshiping with the congregation of Keefeton Free Will Baptist Church where she taught youth Sunday school and adults. She enjoyed the Keefeton Ladies’ Auxiliary and serving on various committees and special projects. One of her special projects was delivering donuts to the Gospel Rescue Mission each week until her health prevented it. Her health also prevented her from attending church in her later years. With all her years of working and serving, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will have many fond memories of spending time with her and her feisty sense of humor. Margie is survived by her daughters, Gwen and Bob Coburn, Pam Hughart and Jay Merriman; grandchildren, Jami and Scott Speir, Joey and Mindy Coburn, Kristi and Chris Johnson, Matt and Ashley Hughart; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Cate, Carter, Rhett, Kylee, Jake; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friend, Lois Price. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Burris; her parents; her siblings, Archie Henderson, Sue Nell Coit, and Jack Henderson; and nephew, Robby Henderson. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Margie’s life will be celebrated at 2PM, Friday, October 6, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cardell Coppin officiating. Interment will follow at McLain Cemetery with Joey Coburn, Charlie Divelbiss, Carter Divelbiss, Rhett Coburn, Matt Hughart, Jake Hughart, Scott Speir, and Chris Johnson serving as pallbearers.
