Martha Sessions

Martha Lackey Sessions, 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 with her loving family at her side. She was born July 14, 1934 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Earl Lackey and Maud Waters Lackey. Martha grew up in Eufaula, OK where she attended school and graduated in 1952. Upon graduation from high school she worked as a dental assistant, first for Dr. Whitman and then Dr. Tom Waters. Martha quit working outside of the home when her children were born. When her youngest began school, Martha became a tax preparer working for H&R Block and later started her own business. Martha married the love of her life, Billy C. Sessions, on October 31, 1957 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was the Troop Leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when their children were young. Martha loved to sew, and was a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching the birds she attracted in her beautiful yard. Martha, and her husband Bill, hosted many family dinners to which all enjoyed. Martha was a longtime member of Alpha Theta Chapter #1038 of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Martha was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Maud Lackey; her sisters, Waunita Penix, Evelyn Burns, and Phyllis Gulley. Martha is survived by her husband of 55 years, Billy C. Sessions, of the home; her sister, Margaret Gourd of Broken Arrow; daughter, Jeanie Sessions Lewis of Muskogee; son, James Ivan Sessions and wife, Denise of Moore; grandson, John Aaron Lewis of Muskogee; granddaughters, Emma Rose Sessions and Grace Noel Sessions, both of Moore; step daughters, Connie Annette Sessions Faith and husband, Stuart, and Cynthia Lynne Sessions Foltz all of Albuquerque, N.M.; step grandchildren Lisa Mercedes Faith Waters Albuquerque, N.M., Christopher Augustus Faith of Los Angeles, C.A., and Nicholas Carlson of Oklahoma City; great step grandchildren Faith Waters, Lucas Waters, and Jayden Faith all of Albuquerque, N.M. and Zayden Carlson of Oklahoma City, and many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. The family requests memorials to be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN., 38105. Funeral services celebrating Martha’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Muskogee with Rev. Tom Shelton officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Hitchita-Lackey Cemetery in Hitchita, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Danny Gourd, James Gulley, David Gourd, Alex Gulley, Charles Burns, and Brian Garner.
