Mary E. Guthrie

Mary Elizabeth (Pippin) Guthrie, 84, of Boynton, Oklahoma entered her eternal heavenly home on Sunday, August 13, 2017. She was born on September 23, 1932 in Oktaha, Oklahoma to Floyd Cotter Pippin and Helen G. Graham Pippin. Mary attended Boynton Public Schools. She met and shortly after fell in love with a very handsome young man, Harold Dewayne Guthrie. They were married on November 6, 1947 and shared more than 69 years of life and marriage together. Mary and Harold made with their home in Boynton, where they raised their family and operated their dairy farm which served their family well for over 50 years. They were also members of the American Dairy Association. Mary will always be remembered as a mighty prayer warrior. Her love for her family and the Lord were very evident every day of her life. She was a long time member of Wainwright First Assembly where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the teenagers and young adult class. In her later years, Mary faithfully attended Wainwright Community Church until her health would not allow. “Nanny” touched many lives and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Helen Pippin; a son, Leonard Guthrie; her sisters, Nina Dunlap, Helen Duvall, and Ruth Ogden; and her brother, Bill Pippin. Mary is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home; son, Harold Dewayne Guthrie II and his friend, Donna Ramsey; daughter, Benecia Guthrie and her friend, Terry Christian; grandson, Shaun Guthrie and his wife Carleen; great-granddaughter and the light of Mary’s life, Kynzlei Kae Guthrie, all of Boynton; brother, Roger Pippin and wife Sondra; sister-in-law, Berniece Pippin; nieces, Edith Guthrie and Pat Guthrie; and two nephews Mary helped raise, Roy Duvall and Bill Duvall; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Mary’s life will be 2PM, Friday, August 18, 2017 at Wainwright First Baptist Church with Rev. Grover Wind officiating; assisted by Rev. Cecil Guthrie and Rev. Clarence Guthrie. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah with Keith Ogden, Monty Guthrie, Doug Ogden, Spud Duvall, Brett Guthrie, and Sam Duvall serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Duvall, Bill Duvall, John Ogden, Jim Ogden, Jerry Pippin, Billy Pippin, and Ronnie Dunlap.
