Mary Inez Sims

Mary Inez Sims passed away peacefully at home on July 2nd, 2020. Mary was born September 1, 1940 in Frankton, Indiana to parents Forrest W. & Thelma L. (Holder) Gooding. She graduated from Frankton High School in 1958 and married the love of her life in November that same year. Her husband of 40 years, Joseph Ronald Sims preceded her in death in December of 1998. They enjoyed many adventures together including raising their three children, running a business and riding their motorcycle around the country. Mary enjoyed cooking and made a career in food service for many years running the kitchen at the Madison County Association for Developmentally Challenged Citizens where she taught life and job skills to clients. She also worked in the kitchens in nursing homes in Elwood and Anderson, Indiana and at the Koskiusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, IN. She took accounting training and used those skills as a bookkeeper for the family business, Sims Garage in Anderson, and in a later position with Tractor Supply Company (TSC) in Warsaw, IN. She and her husband spent the last few years of his life doing work camping in Texas. After she lost her husband she spent the nine years prior to her retirement working in the gift shop at Space Center Houston at JSC in Clear Lake, TX. Mary was a member of the Frankton Christian Church in Frankton, IN. She enjoyed her membership with the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) serving as Worthy Matron of the Frankton, IN chapter and then again for the Seabrook, TX chapter. She and her husband, Joe, and their family also enjoyed being members of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) in Muncie, IN taking part in rides and events with friends. Mary and her daughter also enjoyed spending time attending arts events in Houston and travelling to many of the beautiful areas that this country has to offer. Mary loved her family, she is survived by her daughter, Peggy L. Sims of Muskogee, OK (whom she lived with) and two sons; David J. Sims & wife Vicki of Muskogee, OK and Floyd W. Sims of Anderson, Indiana and one granddaughter, Sarah E. Sims of Muskogee, OK. Additional surviving family includes nephew Gary & wife Sharon Sims of Anderson, IN and niece Anne (Sims) Roberts of Anderson along with several cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother E. Francis and a sister Leila Jane Gooding, both of whom passed away as children. Mary will be cremated and her remains will join those of her husband Joe at a later date in the family plot in Frankton, IN. Out of respect for personal and public safety, no formal visitation will be held. Instead, a private service for family & invited friends will take place on Wednesday, July 8th at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Muskogee, OK. Various small gatherings will be held at later dates to celebrate a well-lived life and the many good memories she has left behind.
