Michael Floyd Backes

Michael Floyd Backes, 73, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. He was born September 14, 1948 to Floyd Burnell Backes and Margaret Irene (Ferrell) Backes in Coffeyville, Kansas. Mike graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1966. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seabee and received an honorable discharge. Mike married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Riley, on November 3, 1975 in Muskogee, Oklahoma and were remarried on July 27, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They shared many years of life, marriage and love together. Mike was a welder and worked at Port City Steel and later Braden Winch until his retirement. He attended Crescent Valley Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord and others. Mike was an avid OU football fan and enjoyed piddling with anything and everything. He dearly loved his wife Beverly, his family and his country. He was very proud to have served his country, was a gentleman, never met a stranger, would go out of his way to help anyone, never complained and was always smiling. Mike will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. His fury friends Sam and Happy will greatly miss him as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret Backes; brother, John Backes; sister, Debbie Backes; and nephew, Kent Backes. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Backes; son, Kevin Michael Backes and wife Angel; daughters, Teka Stephens and husband Tim, and Tonya Wesley; grandchildren, Darick Wesley, Jocelyn, Lillebeth, and Brinklee Backes, Leslie Kolmer and husband Tony, Lauren Stephens, Rileigh Stephens, Markie Carman and wife Haley, Cortni Seward and husband Will; great-grandchildren, Gemma, Henry and Beckham Kolmer, River and Denver Carman; brother, Kevin Backes and wife Sharon and children; sister, Dixie Backes; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Mike’s life will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Crescent Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Chadd Pendergraft officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors presented. Honorary pallbearers will be Casey Rowe, Nate Branchcomb, Chuck London, Matt Denham and Brent Moore.
