Mildred L. Pittman

Mildred Leota Pittman, 75 longtime resident of Muskogee, entered Heaven’s gates Friday, January 26, 2018, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was born April 10, 1942 to Walter Isaac and Lova Leota (Chastain) Menees. She grew up and attended the public schools at Mt. Grove and Webbers Falls, graduating with the class of 1960. She then attended Muskogee Beauty College in 1962. Mildred married G.W. Gibson in 1961. They were married for more than 29 years when he passed away in 1990. Then on February 25, 1991, she and Lawrence E. “Larry” Pittman were married in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They have shared almost 27 years of life and happy marriage together. She and Larry are active members of Southeast Baptist Church and attend Larry Isom’s Sunday School Class. Her professional career was spent in Muskogee working as a beautician that continued approximately 42 years. She retired in 2008 from Boulevard Plaza Beauty Salon. Her family remembers her as a fantastic cook and that she loved cooking for her family; she made sure no one ever left her home hungry. She will be remembered for her prize winning chili that she prepared at Church. Mildred also loved working in the flowers around her home and always growing a huge vegetable garden that she shared with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Leota Menees; a sister, Helen Menees; 9 brothers, Walter Jr. Menees, Herschell Menees, Floyd Menees, Lloyd Menees, Billy Menees, Jerry Menees, Perry Menees, C. R. Menees, Baby Boy Menees; the father of her children, G. W. Gibson. Mildred is survived by her husband, Lawrence Pittman; her sons, Donnie Ray Gibson and wife Michelle of Spencerville Ontario Canada, and Bryan Keith Gibson and wife Jodi of Fort Gibson, OK; step-daughter, Shannon Spainhour of Sand Springs, OK; three sisters, Pauline Reeves and Charlene “Tiny” Points both of Shawnee, OK, Goldie Chisum and husband Albert of Beggs, OK; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other members of the family who will miss her dearly. A celebration of Mildred’s life will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Southeast Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Murray officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Hollifield, Donnie Gibson, Clint Wildman, Bryan Gibson, Ian Wilson and Lewis Watkins. Honorary pallbearer will be George Miller. Interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
