Opal N Lewis

Opal Nell Lewis, 95, of Wagoner, Oklahoma entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the age of 95. She was born February 14, 1920 in Lowry, Arkansas to George Walker Chaney and Effie Winnie Andrews Chaney. Opal married the love of her life, Benjamin Ray Lewis, on December 26, 1940 in Harrison, Arkansas. They shared more than 63 years of life and marriage together. Opal was a long time resident of the Wagoner and Muskogee areas. She was also a faithful member of the Wagoner Church of Christ. Affectionately known to her family as “Granny”, she loved nothing more than making her house a home for her family. Granny enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making numerous afghans for her family and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ray; daughter, Patricia Worthington; granddaughter, Kerry Reese; grandson, Michael Reese; great grandson, Justin Freeman; brothers, Ben Chaney and Rue Chaney; sisters, Jessie Bailey, Cliffie Richardson, Frankie Goen, Jane Roxie Lawhorn, and Pearl Chaney. She is survived by her son, Joe Walker Lewis and wife Glenda; daughter, Winnie Rae Reese, all of Wagoner; grandsons, Jerry Woods and wife Brandy, and Trae Reese, all of Muskogee; granddaughters, Tina Deckard and husband Keith of Wagoner, Lisa Freeman of Bedford, TX, Jamie Brown and husband Jim of Yukon, Julie Schroeder and husband Lance of Lewisville, TX, Judy Wiens and husband Todd of Norman, and Jo Beth McClain of Kellyville; brother, Bruce Chaney of Lead Hill, AR; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous special nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral services honoring Opal’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 at Wagoner Church of Christ with Minister Dan Fredman officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Blake Deckard, Brock Deckard, Brody Deckard, Hunter Freeman, Chaney Freeman, Chris Reese, Avery Reese, B Ray Brown, and Nate Brown serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Bowling, Raymond Essary, Frank Everett, Jessie Harris, Bob Tackett, Lloyd Sutterfield, and Neal Rice.
