Raymond Glen Smith

Raymond Glen Smith, 71, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 with his family at his side. He was born November 11, 1951 in Muskogee to Ted and Vernal June (Baker) Smith. He attended Muskogee public schools and graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1969. He later attended Connors State College graduating with an associate degree in 1981. He proudly served as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. He later received an honorable discharge. Raymond married the love of his life, Nancy Fay Garland on May 4, 1974 at the Westside Church of Christ in Muskogee. They shared more than 49 years of life, marriage and memories together. Raymond and Nancy continued to faithfully attend Westside Church of Christ where he served as an elder. He worked as a salesman for Anderson Wholesale for 29 ½ years retiring in 1998. Raymond enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and hunting. Most important was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Lona Smith, Bob and Elma Baker; his father, Ted Smith; and his brother, Russell Smith. Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of the home; daughters, Lisa Brunn and husband Scott of Tulsa, Lori Hird and husband Vincent of Edmond; granddaughters, Emma Brunn of Tulsa and Violet Hird of Edmond; grandsons, Vincent Hird Jr and Zane Hird of Yukon; mother, June Smith of Muskogee; siblings, Rita Parsons and husband Roy of Tulsa, Robin Greiner and husband Fred of Orlando, FL, Rhonda Branscum and husband Chris of Fort Gibson; sister-in-law, Sharon Smith of Muskogee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and his Westside Church family. Raymond’s life will be celebrated at 9AM, Friday, May 12, 2023 at Westside Church of Christ with Minister Harry Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors being presented. Pallbearers will be Bobby Brown, Ken Hutson, James Garland, Chris Branscum, Vincent Hird Jr and Zane Hird. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Parsons and Dale Garland.
