Richard Anthony Bennett

Richard Anthony “Tony” Bennett went to spend eternity with the Lord on June 27, 2024, at the age of 62. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Tony loved the Lord and talking about stories in the Bible. He also loved to play his guitar, sing, make friends and the Oklahoma Sooners. Tony was very generous and loved to help people in need. Born on August 30, 1961, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Tony was the son of Richard and Virginia Bennett. He attended Sequoyah and Muskogee Schools, and then went on to join the Army in 1980, where he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. He also spent time stationed in Colorado, Washington, and Germany. Once discharged, he returned home to start his employment at Zapata, in Muskogee. In 2003, Tony moved to Memphis to work with his cousin, Jerry Melton. He decided to return to civilian military work overseas in 2008. Traveling overseas, he met his wife, Sara, and they were married in August 2010 in Ethiopia. In 2011, Tony moved back from overseas and made his home in Mississippi. Tony leaves behind his beloved wife, Sara Bennett, son, Eyu Mengsha; son, Dillon Woods and wife, Valerie; daughter, Rashell Conrady and husband, Tyler; grandkids, Rick Bennett Jr; Hailey Bennett; Amberlyn Woods; Luke Woods; Oakleigh Conrady and Caden Conrady; brother, Bernie Bennett and wife, Leslie; brother, Terry Bennett; sister, Brenda Lanning; sister, Debbie Bugher and husband, Ricky; sister, Kathryn Scoggins, many in laws, multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Virginia Bennett; brother, Ronald “Ronnie” George Bennett; son, Rick Bennett. Viewing will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, from 10am-8pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK 74403. Services to celebrate Tony’s life will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 12:30pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, 1423 Cemetery Rd, Fort Gibson, OK 74434, with Eyu Mengsha, Tyler Conrady, Ryan Gallagher, Dillon Woods, John Estep, Terry Bennett, and Russell Bennett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Melton, Ronald "Ronnie" Bennett, Bernie Bennett, Rick Bennett, Efe Tsegahun, Abil Tsegahun, Abent Tsegahun, Josy Tsegahun, Kedus Tsegahun, and Brooke Tsegahun.
