Richard Woodrow Newton

Richard Woodrow Newton was born on January 31, 1943 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully on July 16 ,2026 in his home in Muskogee. He passed peacefully in his sleep next to his beloved wife Marcy. Richard was born on the kitchen table in his family home on Brookin Mountain outside of Eufaula Ok. Weighing in at over 12 lbs to Woodrow and Alta Mae Newton. He was one of 5 children. As a young child he worked beside his parents and siblings in the fields to help support his family. At 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served a tour in Vietnam. In 1961 in Okinawa, Japan he met his lifelong friend Jean Mowery for a friendship lasting 65 years, they talked often exchanging jokes and much laughter. During his time in the Corps he played football and received many awards. After he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he played in the NFL for the LA Rams until a knee injury occurred ending his time there. He then married Josephine Supertino in Bakersfield, California and had two children, Richard and Ragena. They divorced shortly after. His son preceded him in death in 2001. He worked in the oil fields in Bakersfield and then began a career as a truck driver, owning and operating his own truck. In his later years he worked for his nephews Keith and Mark pounds with Central Valley Transport. He lived in Lake Isabella, California where he was an avid fisherman. In his late 70’s he moved to Ephraim, Utah and lived with his daughter. After 5 years he returned to Oklahoma where he met and married Marcy Chastain. He lived out his final 4 years with her. They lived with much love and happiness. Traveling and fulfilling their dreams, laughing and loving every day. His daughter moved to Gore, Oklahoma and spent the last year of his life spending unforgettable times fishing and having much love and laughter. He had many friends and everyone loved him wherever he went. He was known for his generosity and kindness. He leaves behind his wife Marcy; 11 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Leota Wallace and Harold Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alta Mae and Woodrow Newton; siblings, Wanda Pounds and Glen Newton; son, Richard; and two great-grandsons. Many nieces and nephews and cousins and family members who all loved him very much. He will be greatly missed by all. A celebration of Richard’s life will be 2PM, Friday, July 24, 2026 at The House of Prayer in Gore, Oklahoma with Rev. Kevin Cavell and Rev. Ray Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Bower Cemetery with Rhonda Latu, Keith Pounds, Mark Pounds, Ty Merrel, Raymond Perkins and Richard Nasilai serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Faast, Bucky Cook, Ryan Pounds, Michael Anderson, Senituli Nasilai, Sione Fonua and Sosaia Tonga.
