Richard J. Owens Jr.

Richard James Owens, Jr., 57 of Porum, entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, January 2, 2020. He was born on September 16, 1962, in Louisiana, Missouri to Richard J. and Lee E. (Chandler) Owens. He grew up and attended schools in Missouri before moving to Marianna, Arkansas when he was in the 5th grade. After high school, he enlisted with the United States Army and served his country proudly. After his Honorable Discharge, he served in the Army National Guard, also receiving an Honorable Discharge. He then furthered his education and attended Indian Capital Technology Center in Muskogee and studied welding and diesel mechanics. Richard’s professional career was with American Foundry in Muskogee. He worked there over 25 years. On his birthday, September 16, 1989, he and Angela Lynn “Angel” Martin, were married in Porum, Oklahoma. Together they have shared over 30 years of life and marriage. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Richard made it a priority to take care and provide for his family; his biggest joy in life was his family and spending time with them outdoors. His family remembers him being very patriotic and always remembering what the American Flag represented. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Owens Sr; his daughter, Michelle Owens; brother-in-law, Steve Burke and grandson, Braxton Martin. Richard is survived by his wife, Angel of the home; his sons, Matthew Martin and wife Crystal and Richard Owens III and wife Brionne; his daughter, Hannah; his mother, Lee Owens; his sister, Sherry Owens Burke; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Mercedez, Abbi, Mattie, Kellyn, Addison, McKenzie, Rafe, Maze and Henry; his niece and nephew, Rocky Ledbetter (Rachel) and Brittany Burke; numerous great nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Richard’s family will receive friends on Monday, January 6, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wayne Lindsey officiating. Interment will be at Fields Cemetery in Porum, Oklahoma with Military Honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Rocky Ledbetter, Matthew Martin Owens, Richard Owens III, Ronald Ledbetter, Dennis McDaniel, Jose Meza and Dalton Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Hannah Owens, Brittany Burke, Austin and Ava Ledbetter, and his grandchildren.
