Rick Garner

John “Rick” Ray Garner, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 9, 1953, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Rick was the beloved son of Wallace C. and Betty M. (Scraper) Garner. Rick attended public schools and graduated from Hartshorne High School with the class of 1971. On November 12, 1987, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann McCaffrey in Van Buren, Arkansas. Their union was one of love, partnership, and deep devotion, lasting nearly 38 years. Rick’s professional journey took him to Fort Howard in the 1980s, and he later pursued a successful career as a graphic designer at Hoffman Printing and Franklin Graphics, where his talent and creativity left a lasting impact. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rick’s life was enriched by his passions and hobbies. He had a lifelong love for fishing and was a proud member of several fishing clubs and tournament trails, where he shared his enthusiasm with like-minded friends. Rick also loved to draw, go camping, cook, listen to music, and, most importantly, spend quality time with his family. He cherished his role as a “Grandude” and took immense joy in watching his granddaughter Morgan play basketball. A man of faith, Rick was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where his warmth and kindness touched the lives of his fellow congregants. Rick’s legacy of love, kindness, and passion will forever remain in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Betty Garner; his in-laws, Mac and Bettie McCaffrey; his sister, Jan Laws; his brother-in-law, George Bristow; his brother, Bucky Garner; and his son, John Brent Garner. Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Garner, of the home; his loving daughters, Amber McDaniel and husband Trapper of Muskogee, and Michelle Jones of the home; his cherished grandchildren, Morgan Morris, Mabree Morris, Ashlyn McDaniel, and Kord McDaniel; and his dear great-grandchildren, Colt Frix, Leanne McKay, and Chloe McKay, all of Muskogee. Rick’s siblings include Raymond McCaffrey and wife Candace of Norman, Wayne Garner of Wilburton, Vivan Garner Cottrell and Raymond Garner, both of Tahlequah, Cynthia Ann Brooks of San Antonio, TX, Carolyn Vouklizas of Arlington, TX, and Mary Ann Bristow of Cookson. He also leaves behind special cousins, Richie Garner and wife Allison of Tahlequah, as well as a host of extended family members and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Rick’s life will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Jack Weaver officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include David Buckmaster, Richie Garner, Lonnie Williams, Paul Weaver, Darby Webster, Wayne Divelbiss, and Alan Jones.
