Dr. Robert B. Brownell

Dr. Bob Brownell was born in Amarillo, Texas on August 17, 1930 to George and Mabelle Brownell. He passed away in his home of 58 years on July 1, 2026 at the age of 95 years. After graduating from high school and Amarillo College, Bob went on to graduate with a degree in agriculture from Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. He applied to medical school and was accepted at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed an internship and residency at OU Medical Complex in Oklahoma City before serving two years as a captain at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth. He began private practice in Muskogee in 1963. On August 17, 1956, he married a hometown girl from Amarillo, Elaine Faulkner. The Lord blessed them with a long happy marriage of almost 70 years. They had four natural children, Mark, Sharon, Warren, and Susan, and legally adopted 3 special children, Frank, Mindi, and Debbie. They fostered together many more children and hosted several foreign exchange students. Bob enjoyed teaching Bible studies, learning different philosophies and languages, and riding his bike locally, state-wide, and overseas. Hiking in Colorado and New Mexico were his desired vacation in the summer, but he also loved to snow ski with family and friends. He and Elaine traveled overseas to many medical conferences and with a lively travel group from Connors State College for many years. He and Elaine were called to mission as medical professionals with the Wycliff Bible Translation Clinic in the jungle of Loma Linda, Columbia and then with a medical group that provided health services to the under privileged families in Liberia. He traveled with the church youth on mission trips, health fairs, and sponsored the boy scouts as a former Eagle Scout. He and Elaine also became docents for the Tulsa Zoo after retirement and did so for over 10 years. Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine; his children, Mark (Kim) Brownell, Sharon Riggs, Susan (Everett) Wiebe, and Debbie Brownell; his grandchildren, Kali (Jacob) Anderson, Kelson (Amber) Ewing, Seth Brownell, Cade (Leah) Brownell, Jordan (Ryan) Lester, Bailey (Derek) Baxter, and Madison Wiebe; great-grandchildren, Maxine and Joseph Anderson, and Luca Baxter. He was preceded in death by his son, Warren Brownell; daughter, Mindi Brownell; and grandson, Garrett Wiebe. The family will greet friends from 5-7PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Bob’s life will be celebrated at 2PM, Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First United Methodist Church in Muskogee. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Kelson Ewing, Seth Brownell, Cade Brownell, Jacob Anderson, and Garrett Wiebe.
