Romona Jean Avers

Romona Jean Avers, 62, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. She was born on April 13, 1955 in Watertown, Wisconsin to Gene Rouleau and Lillian (Warwick) Rouleau. She attended public schools and graduated in 1973 from River Falls High School in River Falls, Wisconsin. Romona married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Avers on January 6th, 1973 at the Methodist Church in River Falls, Wisconsin. They shared almost 45 years of life and marriage together. They had a love for each other that was very rare. She worked for the Muskogee City Water Department and retired in 2002 due to a decline in her health. Romona’s family recalls that she was not into makeup or fancy dresses but will be remembered as a strong and funny person. She loved to fish and would tell you she was going to out fish you and then proceed to prove it. She would drop a line in the water and it was like she had a fish magnet. Romona could sometimes reel in three to our one with a little “Here fishy fishy.” Her hobbies included playing cards, crocheting, camping, and doing little things to keep her busy. Her grandkids were her heart. She was sassy and spunky and oh, so stubborn but she was the spark in our lives. That flame has gone out for those of us left behind. We will struggle to move forward without her light. Romona was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Rouleau; granddaughter, Allie; and nephew, Jesse Albrecht. Romona is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of the home; daughter, Danielle Tipton and husband Cory, and their children, Kylie, Destiny, and Ariel of Cyril, OK; son, Nathan Avers and wife Maria, and their children, Hunter, Alex, and Zachary of Muskogee, OK; son, Nicklaus Avers and the love of his life, Tiffany Moore, and her children, Riley and Maddison of Muskogee, OK; mother, Lillian Rouleau of Wisconsin; sisters, Roxie Hatch (David), Denise Albrecht (Jim), Deb Junkman (Bill), Faith Ann Cook (Kevin); brothers, Lynn Rouleau (Christine) and Richard Rouleau (Jackie); adopted brother, John Swager; dog son, Wild Bill; along with other family members and friends. A memorial service celebrating Romona’s life will be 2:30PM, Friday, October 27, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Avers, Nicklaus Avers, Ricky Merriman, Cheryl Hart, Cory Tipton, and Cathy Daniels.
