Sammye Irene Reeves

Sammye Irene Reeves passed to her Heavenly home Friday evening, October 26, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Russell and Faye (Williams) Vernon on a beautiful spring day in March. Her mother had made a one day trip to Fort Smith to help her family and Sammye was born while she was there in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She grew up and attended school at Muskogee, Oklahoma and graduated from Muskogee’s Central High School. After graduating from high school, Sammye married the love of her life, Rex Williams Reeves Jr. at the Justice of the Peace in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Together they have shared over 66 years of happy marriage together. They are members of Southeast Baptist Church and former members of Central Baptist Church. Sammye’s professional career was with Corning Glass Company as staff accountant. She began working there not long after graduating from high school and continued for 38 years. She retired in 1992. OU Football and the OU Girl’s Softball team were her favorites! She very much enjoyed watching them play. In fact, Sammye and Rex together enjoyed watching and participating in sports, including golf and bowling. Sammye was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Faye Vernon. She is survived by her loving husband, Rex of the home; sister, Russellynne Schultz and husband Jack of Muskogee; nephew, Jack Schultz Jr and wife Glenda of Sand Springs, OK; niece, Heila Newman of Destin, FL; cousin, Greg Vernon of Grapevine, TX; great nephew, Jack Schultz III of Muskogee and great niece, Lydia Schultz of Fort Gibson; sisters-in-law, Patti Snyder and son David of Seabring, FL, and Dolly Barnette and husband Chip of Muskogee and their children, Marc of Muskogee and Sharil of Tulsa; niece, Carol Sue McFall of Mexia, TX; special friends, Debbie and Greg Adkins, Dr. George and Betty Ladd, and Bill and Shirley Benham; numerous other nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Sammye’s life will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Monty Baggett officiating. A private family interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Ladd and Bill Benham.
