Sandra Kay Carrier

Sandra Kay (Lee) Carrier was born on May 26, 1948, to Geneva (Sly) and Tony Lee. She was the oldest of three daughters born to their union—Sandy, Verdonna, and Tonya. Sandy was very close with her cousins on both sides of her family and shared many cherished stories about Harold, Carol Sue, Vickie, and Barbara. She also spent a great deal of time with her aunts and uncles, creating memories she carried with her throughout her life. Sandy dedicated 42 years of service to the Muskogee County Health Department, retiring in April 2010. She was the first face you would see when you walked through the doors—a constant, welcoming presence to so many. She was often told she had the best telephone voice. She truly loved her job and the people she worked with. In fact, she had accumulated so much vacation time that she was required to take days off before retiring. Over the years, she built lasting friendships, and all of us kids have fond memories of visiting her at work. Sandy wasn’t fond of change, and when she was told, she would have to trade in her typewriter for a computer, she quickly decided it was time to retire. Sandy loved reading and had quite a collection of books. In her later years, she enjoyed spending her time watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies, Netflix, and crime shows. Her great-grandson Tyson would always say she loved “kissing murder” shows—something that always made her smile or giggle. She truly loved her shows. Sandy loved the Oasis Christian Radio Station and faithfully gave to the station each month. One of her favorite Christian speakers was Joyce Meyer. In 1995, she and Angela attended one of her conferences at Oral Roberts University. This was a very special trip for them both. Sandy purchased one of her books and was able to meet Joyce and receive a signed copy. Sandy’s greatest gift to us all was her kindness, her love, her prayers over us, and her willingness to help in all situations. She took care of all the grandkids and great grandkids at some point in her life. Sandy lived 77 beautiful years, just 41 days shy of her 78th birthday. She was baptized at Grandview Baptist Church by Brother Patterson around 1976 or 1977. She loved Jesus, knew where she was going, and was not afraid. She was ready and knew her time was getting close. Her greatest prayer was that her family would be okay—to be happy, forgive each other, give lots of hugs, eat, rest, and join her in Heaven one day. On her final Monday, she said, “I need my people up there with me. I don’t want to be alone up there,” and “I sure miss my momma.” She often reassured us, saying, “I am okay—don’t worry.” She never complained through her sickness or throughout her life. She was the tiniest, strongest, bravest, and most loving mom and grandma. She was ours, and we adored her beyond words. We are each thankful for every moment. Our hearts will never be the same. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva and Tony; her sister, Verdonna Markovics, and her husband, George; her nephew, Michael James; and her brother-in-law, Joe Dreadfulwater. She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her three children, Jack; Angela and husband Jimmey; and Nicholas; her seven grandchildren, Heather; Jordan and wife Somer; Lacey; Wesley; Chase; Alyssa; and Savana; and her thirteen great-grandchildren, Cole, Brooke, Kolten, Evelyn, Tyson, Kadrian, Parris, Keonte, Harper, Kamden, Olauni, Kai, and Grey. Sandy especially treasured the opportunity to raise her granddaughter Alyssa—they shared a bond that was truly special, one that went beyond grandmother and granddaughter, as Alyssa was her daughter, too. Sandy loved and looked forward to Sundays with her youngest great-granddaughter Evelyn Mae. Jordan faithfully brought Evelyn to visit every Sunday, and Sandy never wanted to miss a moment with “her girl.” Jordan always made sure his Gran had groceries, her lawn mowed, and anything else she needed. She lovingly referred to him as “My Jordan... he is so good to me.” Both Jordan and Wesley were always willing to assist in helping their Gran. She also leaves behind her beloved baby sister, Tonya, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Rivercross (Hospital at Home care) for the loving care they provided to our precious mom, Gran, and sweet, sweet Grandma. To Carter, Alyssa, and Dennis—thank you for not just doing your jobs, but for becoming her friend. You spent time with Sandy, showed her compassion, preserved her dignity, and made it possible for her to remain in the comfort of her home. “Home Sweet Home” was always her wish. And to her very first forever nurse, her son-in-law Jimmey—thank you. She loved you all so very much. We are also deeply grateful to Cornerstone for helping us honor her life with a beautiful celebration. We find peace in knowing she is completely healed, with Jesus, reunited and hugging her little momma once again. I hope they are dancing, singing, and walking in roses. This is not a forever goodbye—it’s “I will see you later, Little Beautiful Pretty Momma, Gran, and Grandma.” A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Chaplain Dennis Nance officiating.
