Thelma Marie Roberts

Thelma Marie Gibson Roberts was born April 20, 1932 to Marion Bryan Gibson and Ira Jane Spencer Gibson in Seminole, Oklahoma. She grew up on a farm in Shawnee with three sisters and three brothers and attended Shawnee and Rock Creek Schools. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Jack Landrum of Shawnee and Earnest Bros. Shoe Store. Thelma married Harold Ray Roberts on September 12, 1954 sharing 60 years together and had one daughter, Pamela Rae. In 1959, they moved to Muskogee where they made their home for the next decade. She was employed by C. R. Anthony’s and J. C. Penney’s and was always the #1 top seller in her department. She also enjoyed volunteering at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in the hospital giftshop for several years. Thelma and Harold were members of First United Methodist Church and members of the Friendship Class for 47 years. In later years, they began attending Southeast Baptist Church and were members of the Joy Class. She enjoyed her new family of friends for three years at Country Gardens Assisted Living and The Springs the last six years. She was always stirring up some kind of fun or trouble. She always had a story to tell and enjoyed visitors. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Ira Jane Gibson; husband, Harold Ray Roberts; brothers, George Gibson and wife Jean, Rev. Kenneth Gibson and wife Mary; sisters, Elsie Moore and husband Dub, Helen Sikes and husband Clifford, and Geneva Loftis; nephews, Eddie Gibson, Gary Don Moore; and great nephew, Brett Cathy. She is survived by daughter, Pamela Rae Roberts Morrison; granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Morrison Cumbey and husband Travis; grandson, Scott Landon Morrison and wife Heather; six great-grandchildren, Halie Pruitt and husband Adam, Makenzie Cumbey, Jacie Cumbey, Landon Morrison, Abbey Morrison and Logan Morrison; one great-great-grandson, Rhett Pruitt; brother, Donald Gibson and wife Johnnie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. A celebration of Thelma’s life will be at 11:30AM, Friday, October 25, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Donnie Echols officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Allen Gibson, Paul David Gibson, Greg Gibson, Jimmy Gibson, Rickey Smith, and Clifton Sikes. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Moore, Terry Moore, and Phil Sikes.
