Vernon "Carl" Epperson

It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon “Carl” Epperson announce his passing. Carl was born in Boynton, Oklahoma on September 6,1936 to Mary Ellen Force and William Willis Epperson. He grew up on a farm in Boynton where he developed his love for animals. He attended Boynton Grade School and graduated from Okmulgee High School with the class of 1954. On April 13, 1956, Carl married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Epps. From this union, they had three sons, Dan Epperson, Donnie Epperson, and Gary Epperson, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Carl’s first job was at Tom Brown Optical and he also drove an ambulance nights and weekends. He then worked for Brockway Glass Company for 37 years until he retired. He loved to bowl and was on the Brockway Glass bowling league. He and Joyce bowled on a couples league and they loved to go dancing. Carl loved spending time with his family and taking care of his animals. He will always be remembered as an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandpa. He was always there for anyone who needed anything. He wasn’t just an amazing husband and father; he was an incredible person. His love, wisdom, and strength will continue to guide us all and his memory is a source of comfort and inspiration. Even though he’s gone, his spirit will live on in the lives of those he touched, and his legacy will live forever. We will always carry his memory in our hearts. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and William Epperson; his brothers, William Epperson Jr., and Jack Epperson; his sisters, Louise Seabolt, Shirley Bever, and Wilma Jean Lovelady. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of the home; sons, Dan Epperson and wife Tish, Donnie Epperson, all of Muskogee, and Gary Epperson of Fort Gibson; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Anna Epperson; brother-in-law, Jim Bever; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Carl’s life will be celebrated at 2PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Eric Epperson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with his grandsons, Gary Epperson, Bryan Epperson, Jacob Epperson, Aaron Epperson, Adam Garner, and Jason Garner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews. The family wishes to give a special “Thank You” to all of those who helped care for Carl over the last 2 ½ years.
