Vernon "Scott" Owen

Vernon “Scott” Owen was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Vernon Eugene and Lorene Alasca Owen on February 23, 1958. They tried for almost 15 years to have a baby so Scott as well as his sister Debra, who came 18 months later, were truly answers to prayer. In 1976 Scott went into the US Navy and served our country for 4 years. During his service in the Navy, as well as some time after, Scott worked on helicopters, as well as ocean rescue. He loved to be in the water and swim. On April 16, 1984, Scott married the love of his life and best friend, Teretta Lynn Jones. They have three grown children, Daniel, Luke, and Sarah whom they love and are very proud of. He was very adamant to hug and tell them he loved them and was proud of them. Scott was a good provider for his family. He learned drafting and worked doing that. He loved to learn, and always tried to better himself by taking training any chance it was offered. He became an IT guy through this training. Scott had the ability to do just about anything. He welded, worked on engines, built things from shelves to storage, to a cabin. He was good with the two hands God gave him. He was smart as well, and loved to share what he knew with others. One of the most important things to Scott was his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His walk with the Lord was vital to him. The love of Christ gave Scott the ability to love others which he did. He loved to go camping down in southeastern Oklahoma at Billy Creek. He would sit down there under the big pine trees and say how beautiful it was. He worshipped the Lord with his brothers and sisters at Grace Fellowship Muskogee, but he also worshipped the Lord out in the back yard as well as in the woods. Often, he’d say how amazing God was to make such beauty. Scott was a family guy. He loved his 8 grandsons. He was known as Papa and Poppy. He also loved spending time with them, showing them how to do things like working on a project, even if it slowed him down. He loved sharing with them his love of guns. He taught them to shoot and took them to the gun range. He taught them to use tools, and how to drive the Wolverine. He loved his sons’ wives, Camille and Kali, just as his own daughters. He will sorely be missed by us all. Scott was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Vernon and Lorene Owen. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Teretta; son, Daniel and wife Camille Owen, son, Luke and wife Kali Owen; daughter, Sarah Owen and boyfriend Chris; grandsons, Elijah, Darius, Gabriel, Lucus, Alvin, Cylis, Dakotah, and Jameson; sister, Debbie and Morris Tanton; along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A memorial service celebrating Scott’s life will be at 10AM, Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Brian McCawley officiating. Military honors to be presented.
