William J. "Bill" Sweeney

William J. “Bill” Sweeney II, 65, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma passed from this life on earth to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. He was born on March 7, 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Bill Sweeney and Dorothy Louise Durrett Sweeney. William attended public schools and graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1969. He attended Okmulgee Tech where he studied Commercial Art. William met and later married his best friend, Susan Bowen, on August 30, 1974 at the First United Methodist Church in Muskogee. They celebrated more than 42 years of life and marriage together. He will always be remembered as a brilliant fine artist. He was the owner and operator of Windward Imaging where his passion of being an artist served him well. William’s other interests included sailing, scuba diving, music, art, and most recently, beekeeping; where he built his own hives. He also loved traveling and adventure, and military history. William collected and built his own firearms. He also loved his home that he designed and built. He learned his carpentry skills from his father as he could build anything out of wood. William loved his family, his pets, and Oklahoma Sooners. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Louise Sweeney. William is survived by his wife, Susan, of the home; brother, Shane Sweeney and wife Neli of Claremore, OK; sisters, Elizabeth Clark and husband Steve of Broken Arrow, OK, Shirley Ann Williams and husband Perry of Dutchess Creek, OK; nieces, Jenna Bowen, Angela Haynie Hancock, Dawn Wilson, Holly Graham, Sydnie Sweeney, Elizabeth Rivera, and Gretchen Lloyd; nephews, Calvin Sweeney, Nial Sweeney, Dustin Bowen, and Beaux Williams; brother-in-law, Rocky Bowen and wife Debra of Oktaha; step sister-in-law, Maggie Feigel of Muskogee; special cousin-in-law and caregiver, Judy Breshears; along with other family members and many friends. The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to friends, family members, and the staff of T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital for their loving care and support. A memorial service celebrating William’s life will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cardell Coppin officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Raw, Steve Mashburn, Al Triggs, Jack Durrett, Danny Crockett, Bradley Graham, Bill Wilson, Elvis Rivera, and Eddie Sweeney.
